Historic health care bill clears Senate hurdle

By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent David Espo, Ap Special Correspondent – 5 mins ago

WASHINGTON – Invoking the memory of Edward M. Kennedy, Democrats united Saturday night to push historic health care legislation past a key Senate hurdle over the opposition of Republicans eager to inflict a punishing defeat on President Barack Obama. There was not a vote to spare.

The 60-39 vote cleared the way for a bruising, full-scale debate beginning after Thanksgiving on the legislation, which is designed to extend coverage to roughly 31 million who lack it, crack down on insurance company practices that deny or dilute benefits and curtail the growth of spending on medical care nationally.

We seem to be closer to doing something to reform health care than we have at any time in the past. I hope that is a good thing.
Me too Robbie, I would prefer a single payer, I hope this is the first step in that direction.
Hope it doesn't turn out like our schools or Amtrack.
I am somewhat confused by this post. I guess maybe I could see some connection between Public Health Care and Public Schools. But not really.
Amtrack and Health care? How are they similar?
The way the government run things, Buddy

They will probably give me a mammy-o-gram...........
Just a guess, but I predict a lot of early retirements in the senate next year.
Of course you are referring to the obstructionist who voted against the health care bill?
That's what I'm thinking, Bull... :)
Time will tell.
Bernie Madoff, hit my pension a pretty good lick, and now we have the Madoff Health Care Plan.
I think at this point, my best bet is to quit work and join the Victim Party.
Why the fuck should I be getting up a 4 am every morning going to work?
Hallelujah brothers and sisters. I have seen the liberal light.
Now that I am a member of the Victim Party I can say stick it, to those cold blooded bastards who are trying to shit on my gravy train.

I'm with ya now Harry.
