HEADLINE: Manziel, in His First Season, Achieves a Heisman First

Johnny Football is the first freshman to win a Heisman trophy and I know how proud his school is of him right now.  I was at the University of Texas (We used to be rival schools with A & M way back in the olden days...last year) in 1977 when Earl Campbell won the trophy and I remember what an honor this prize is for the player himself as well as the institute of higher learning that he represents.

Johnny Manziel being only twenty deserves extra credit for this phenomenal feat.

In the spirit of good sportsmanship, I'd like to say (to all you Aggies out there)...It's about time you caught up with us in number of Heismans, but now that we're 2 & 2, the gloves are off!!

‎'Twas the night before the 2013 Cotton Bowl game,
And Johnny Football has already lived up to his name, Heisman, and fame,
My Aggies get to play the team that's called ou...,
And everyone, like me, says "o who?",
We're no longer conference foes,
And at some point in the game I hope Johnny Football strikes that pose!,
This game is getting National Championship Game like buzz,
Wait a minute!, The Aggies are in it so it's just because,
So many people & critics said Texas A&M couldn't compete in the SEC,
Along side with The Aggie Nation... I BELIEVE!,
As you can tell I hope the Aggies WIN,
'Cause all year long I'll be supportin' that "WINNING" grin!!!

Of course Johnny Football plays tonight against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.  And no, it isn't the same with Tex gone, but then again the Cotton Bowl hasn't been the same for some time since it hasn't been a BCS bowl or rather never been since the BCS was setup a decade or so ago.

What it is, or at least has been is the ghost of the old Southwest Conference or its next generation the Big !2 which of course is no longer 12, as the Big 10 is 12 and yes, the college math is confusing.

So, with the 12th man(more math mixed in with some sexism) will Johnny Football be the game?  We will find out in an hour or so, and oh, yes, it is on Fox not ESPN, for now.  And yes, Johnny Football is still at Texas A&M, for now.

Johnny Manziel grew up a University of Texas fan, but Texas did not want him.

Last night Oklahoma got run over by a deer,

Or was that A&M's Johny Football over there.

He broke all the records for passing and running.

His feats were so amazing they were more than just cunning.

Alas, the Oklahoma coach said with despair,

Why didn't I recruit him in his senior high school year?

(If you want good poetry read Ezra Pound.)

Johnny did good, I was at the Cotton Bowl last night.

I did not have to listen to the TV announcers.

Not to be a negative but are they now going to go back and give Hershel Walker the Heisman he deserved when he was a freshman but was denied because he was a freshman? Yes he did get one the next year but should have had at least two.

Hershel Walker deserved at least two Heismans.

Texas A&M OT Luke Joeckel declares for 2013 NFL draft, could be first overall pick.

Those teams near the top of the selection order in the 2013 NFL draft in need of offensive line help got a big boost when it was announced that Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel will make himself eligible for the upcoming draft. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Joeckel is NFLDraftScout's number-one draft prospect, and may very well be the best player in the draft when all is said and done.

The 2012 Outland Trophy winner was the pointman in an offense that was dynamic enough to allow Manziel to become the first freshman ever to win the Heisman Trophy. Texas A&M right tackle Jake Matthews, the son of NFL Hall-of-Famer Bruce Matthews, is considered to be perhaps the best at his position in college football.
