A Case for Abortion?

A 16 year old boy and an 18 year old woman, drunk out of their minds, have sex and conceive a baby. Throughout the pregnancy the woman continues to abuse drugs (narcotics, cocaine) and drink to blind innebriation. She is unsure of who the father actually is...this is proven later. At 5 months, the baby is pre-maturely born. There is clearly brain damage. (His nickname is 'Pot'). Now the mother uses the child as a weapon against her 'one night stand). What chance does this kid have? M.Sanity

An unwanted newborn (healthy or not) has no chance unless adopted by a loving family. I guess it's up to the courts about the 16 year old's paternal responsibilty. A hard lesson indeed.

the baby is going to be messed up, and the tax payers will support it til it gets old enough to get out of foster care or institution to go to jail or an adult institution still supported by the taxpayers.

This is one of those cases where someone, heavy handed government is most likely and will piss off a bunch of people. But the parents, if anyone can find a father, have proven irresponsibility, and the fetus should have been terminated. But since there is now a child present...as bad as the foster care system is, it is better than the life the child currently faces. IMHO

let me start by saying I am very pro-choice. Very. But once a child is born, I believe in the power of the human spirit. Yes, maybe this child will have a difficult life. But I've seen love change people in completely unexpected ways. Anything can happen. Maybe this child will be lost in the system. Or maybe someone will connect with this child and bring out the full potential of who he can be. Not an easy start, but not a hopeless case.

Unfortunately, the childs main purpose seems to be as a weapon against the father (who, incidently, is dropping out of high school again so he can get a car. Sheesh!
