2010 Census
Good morning all.
It is still morning, I think. I've been up a few hours. Cleaned up, walked the dog,went to breakfast with a bunch of guys, and returned to find left on my steps a census form to fill out.
The initial census had missed me. That's what happens when you are moving around all the time.
My situation is somewhat unique. I can hear the snickering. Let me explain.
I live in an RV. I belong to a RV club that is located near Livingston, TX. The club has its headquarters and a RV park at this location. It is a very large club. It has about 32,000 members. It also has the largest private mail handling and forwarding operation in the US. Since many of us RV people do not have a fixed residence, we claim this location as our home residence. I do not know the exact number, but do know it is large.
Initially, the club thought it had a deal with the Census Bureau whereby the forms would be mailed to all who claimed The RV Headquarters as home. For some reason this arrangement fell through.
Therefor the census workers had missed me. I can explain how and why if anyone is interested.
So anyway, I have now been counted and all is well.
Have any of you not been counted? why? what do you think of the census?

Yeh, he mistakenly thought that one of the questions was "How many dogs live with you? Someone had told him that the government supply of dog biscuts depended on the responses to the census.

Seriously, having worked the 2000 census I understand the importance of it. Therefor I ask a person who is working the census this year what I should do.
It is a very important aspect of how our country functions. The number of representitives each state is allowed and many other important components of the US Government is dictated by the census numbers.

I had my OH. form forewarded to me in FL. by a neighbor who picks up my mail when I am not there. I filled it out and sent it back. When I got to OH this time, I found a small note that was lost in a stack of mail my neighbor had saved for me. Looks like it was stuck on my front door. Anyway, it is a census worker that wants me to call her and complete a 10 minute interview over the phone. It says call in the PM, and I keep forgetting. I'm probably gonna get busted.
I'm not making fun of the census Robbie, I know it is important too. I just have so much on my mind lately it is hard to focus. And I just found the form 3 days ago, it isn't dated, so don't know when she was here. Hopefully I will remember tomorrow to call her.

We didn’t like the census form asking if we owed our own home and was it paid for.
If it’s paid for, are they going to tax us more?
Did they ask about other debt?, don’t know as my wife filled it out.

An equally important part of the census besides determining representation, is the allotment of federal funds. How much of whatever is being doled out is often weighted on census data. Robbie, I'm sure the local politicians want everyone of those 32,000 members counted.

A few years ago someone contested our right to claim this as a domicile since we didn't own property here. Don't know all the details but did hear that the Governor had to get involved and that the Texas Supreme Court ruleded that we were just as legal as anyone who rented.
