for a limited time you can view an excellent PBS miniseries of Shakespeare's Henry VI and Richard III which comprise an account of the War of the Roses. this is a new production with Benedict Cumberbatch and Dame Judy Dench
Henry VI, Part 1 is the first of three parts in The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses mini-series. The King is dead and England is in crisis. War rages with the French and divisions within the English court threaten the crown. Young Henry VI (Tom Sturridge) causes outrage by marrying Margaret of Anjou, forcing an unwanted truce. This sets the scene for Civil War.
Henry IV Part 2 is the second of three parts in The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses mini-series. Bitter rivalries erupt into the Wars of the Roses. The feeble King Henry is overshadowed by Queen Margaret and her faction of Lancastrian Lords, his reign further undermined by disaffected nobles supporting the House of York. Battle and bloodshed ensue.
Richard III is the third of three parts in The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses. Richard III, the most notorious of Shakespeare’s kings, manipulates his way through the court on a ruthless path to the throne. But after Richard’s defeat at the battle of Bosworth Field, the Houses of Lancaster and York unite, bringing the Wars of the Roses and a tumultuous period of civil strife to an end.
