As some of you know, my husband (whom I met on TBD1), is the co-chair of NOMAS: National Organization Of Men Against Sexism. This 30-year-old group works well behind the scenes--often in conjunction with other groups including NOW (National Organization for Women) and NCADV (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence) to address sexism, racism and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and sexual preference. One of the other board members, Barry Goldstein (With Mo Hannah) is publishing a book, "Domestic Violence, Abuse and Child Custody."

I'd heard and read a lot about Barry before I ever met him--and was extremely curious about who this man *is*--because he's portrayed as both angel and devil for his work on custody cases. He is currently unable to practice law due to the actions of a judge whom he criticised. I suppose that if his criticisms had remained confined to a website, his punishment might have been less than it ultimately was--but Newsweek picked up the story on which Barry's censure is based, and, well....
You can read a detailed analysis of the case here:

Barry is also the author or "Scared To Leave, Afraid To Stay". He served on the board of directors of the local battered women's shelter for 14 years including four years as chairperson.
Suffice it to say the man I met is an ardent advocate for women's rights in the courts.
His books aren't easy reads--but they are well-written and wealth of information.
