Mine, too... I was in college at Houston.... Man, was I ever educated. Yes, it was 'Airplane' then. Thus the ever so long adventure into hippydom and a pony tail down to my Butt... Whew... Let's see, what else... Ahhhh, Wooden Ships... Great number. Studio Cut is much better. Last Concert I was at was in San Francisco State Park... Jefferson Starship, Greatful Dead, and Willie & Waylon. All day long. Best LSD trip I ever had. Don't do that stuff anymore, though...
Oh well... there you have it... ;-)
I used to live in Palo, CA. Prime time during Jerry's peak. Used to go down El Camino Real to a place called the Warehouse... Peanut shell floor type of place... Real cool.. Jerry and the boys, if not on tour, would be there on weekends. Almost didn't leave till the sun came up... Have to say "Trukin' " was my favorite... Another place up in the Santa Cruz Mts. was a place called Chateu Liberte... Starship & CSNY used to hide out there on weekends. THAT place was 'Stoned' heaven...

I've been to 55 Dead shows, the first being Kansas City 1980, the last being Red Rocks 2003. The last time I saw Jerry was Las Vegas 1995, the first three shows of his last tour. At that point, you could tell he was back on heroin. No passion, blank look in his eyes, forgotten lyrics despite having a teleprompter. I was very sad, but not surprised, when he passed away. The 2003 shows had Kimock on guitar and Joan Osborne singing with Bobby. They are available as a 15 CD set - five nights, no repeated songs. Well worth the investment. They opened the first night with the best rendition of "Scarlet Begonias" that I've ever heard.
Yeah, that's too bad. A lot of crap happened in the 80's. Fortunately I knew him in the early 70's when things were on a happier keel. Stoned, maybe, but not washed out.
