Current Events: We could really use your good thoughts and prayers...
At this writing (Monday morning), 135 sq miles of Los Angeles county hill- and mountain-side have burned...and two firefighters have lost their lives. The fire is currently "5% contained"--which is politspeak for "uncontained".
Those of us who choose to live in such places understand the risks--I'm not asking for sympathy here. What we need--desperately--is your good thoughts for the 2,500 firefighters who have been at this for almost a week and who are already exhausted and facing another week+ of hellish conditions.
Whatever prayer or chant or good energy you have you can pass their way would be most appreciated.

The victims were fire Capt. Tedmund Hall, 47, of San Bernardino County, and firefighter Specialist Arnaldo "Arnie" Quinones, 35, of Palmdale. Hall was a 26-year veteran, and Quinones had been a county firefighter for eight years. Quinones' wife is expecting and due to give birth to their first child in the next few weeks. Hall and his wife have two boys, ages 20 and 21.
I'll keep them all in my thoughts. -

TUESDAY MORNING: Burn area: 190 sq miles and growing. Containment: 5%. Number of firefighters: 3700. Mt. Wilson survived the night. Current guestimates are that the fire will continue to burn for weeks, pending any changes in the weather.
GOOD NEWS: The Shambala Wild Animal Sanctuary (founded by Tippi Hedren; http://www.shambala.org/) sent out a plea for help via the internet (Twitter, FB, etc) that they needed flatbeds to move animals in their cages--and the response was overwhelming. Some cats (lions and tigers) are being held at Shambala, which has its own fire-fighting team. Several other sanctuaries in that same area are evacuating. -
