I had to add this movie--especially for us girls! LOL!
I went to see this movie and was a little reluctant...but glad I did. I preferred the book (of course!), but the movie did bring it to life for me. I wanted to review the movie on its own merits, and it surely is not worthy of the critics' "C". Generally, if the so-called "critics" rate a movie low, I love it. Such is the case with this one. It is a beautiful love story, a plot much different than the run-of-the-mill love stories. Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana, as well as the younger characters, are great.
I am interested in hearing what your thought about it are!
Thank you Earende! I liked this movie. It featured two attractive leads in a poignant story of love and loss. The child actors were excellent and the supporting players were appropriately solid. This take on the time travel chestnut is both unique and familiar by turns. Noticed the critical reaction was mixed, but the audience reaction was generally more positive. My main quibble is not with the plot which is often illogical, but with the insertion of the gratuitous fact that the McAdam's character's father was a gasp, Republican- as though that was some kind of disease- naturally, he's a gun toting hunter as well- and later 'accidentally' shoots the lead, a la, Dick Cheney- just to remind the viewer to beware of evil Republicans with guns. I wish Hollywood could make movies without stereotyping SOME group. Despite that unnecessary addition, I would recommend the film to romantic-minded folks!
I swear EVERY time I go see a movie that the "critics" have given a C to a C- the movie ALWAYS turns out to be at least an A or an A+!
As far as I am concerned The Critics know exactly.....NOTHING....about Movies! What DO they know??
Anyway the story - it was a good thing that I've read the book before watching the movie, it gave me more insight about the characters and the plot of the story.
Acting - the main actors/actress played their part well. I have nothing bad to say about Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. They were both amazing in all the parts they played.
Directions - it didnt quite capture the whole important parts of the book but it was worth watching and it was really moving.
Visuals - I love the visuals, places, and the special effects.
Overall - movies that are based on book are not always good. I must say that this actually worth watching. It captures almost all of good parts and plots of the book. its amazing. I cant really say anything bad about it. So just have an open mind watching it and enjoy. !t also helps if you read the book before watching the movie!
I was going to see District 9 but got there to late to see it, I loved this movie saw it last night with my hubby, it was funny, moving, sad, emotional, all sorts of feels it brings and still thinking about it today, we both liked it a lot, its not a remake or a 2,3 or 4th sequel its original story line is fantastic. Can't understand the C rating, great acting, great story, haven't read the book but want to now.

Don't listen to the critics I just don't understand how they are so far from the majority of movie goers on their critics! well worth seeing. I will buy the dvd when it comes out.
The movie does a good job with the sequence confusion of time travel. Claire knows Henry before they meet. He visits her as an older man and later as a younger man etc. There are many scenes related to the hardship of being married to somebody who just disappears unexpectedly. Much of the movie is the big setup to prepare you for the ending. However, there were a lot more adventures of Henry in the book that were not covered in the movie. There was just too much to include but the movie emphasizes the romance and hardship of the relationship but not so much of the adventure and odd happenstances related to sudden transportation.
Pretty good but not A- material though I still enjoyed it. It is probably a decent date movie worthy of some discussion afterwords but the book is 5x better. If you have not read it, it is a wonderful page turner.
