Now here is an epiphany ~

Why is it always better reading about the fair
than going there in person?
Ohhh not for me Zendog...the smells, the sounds, the people...it's like a live performance of the theatre of the absurd...I luuuurve it....heh
hum, not sure why, but both your poem and Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes seem, in my mind, far more enjoyable than any actual trip to the fair I ever had.

city girl at Skowhegan
magical maine night

sixteen and bright eyed
he swept me up behind him
on Briar’s broad back

cantering along
american flag flying
couched like a knight's lance

we led the parade
upturned faces, proud hearts, smiles
watching the flag pass

my arms around him
memorizing the moments
heart and soul afire

around the fairgrounds
sights and sounds larger than life
all american

the parade over
we dismounted and stood close
man and girl, alone

the look in his eyes
the desire in both our hearts
our lips met, just once
write on Angharad
now waiting for next chapter
so just once, & then.....
