Today, in Musical History, May 8th, 1976: BBC Radio 1 DJ Johnnie Walker very publicly resigns, after being ordered by station management to pretend to like the Bay City Rollers - Even when Walker was off the air.
Walker often referred to the Rollers, on air, as "musical garbage", which didn't endear him to either the BBC or the Roller's PR team. But being ordered to not only not talk shit about them in his private life, but to sing their praises, was going 'WAY too far...
As Elvis Costello once said, "Radio is in the advertising business, not the music business". No shit, EC....
