Sometimes I feel that Robbie Fulks is carrying on Warren Zevon's smarky, sardonic songsmithing...

Cover of the Day:

"18 Hammers", recorded September of 1959, at Camp "B" of the Mississippi State Penitentiary  (the very "Parchman Farm" of legend itself), by inmate Johnny Lee Moore.

Cover by the late Willy DeVille, live at the "2 Meter Sessions", #866, January 24th, 2020

Today in Musical History, September 8th:

Wire release their second album, "Chairs Missing"

Your player is not malfunctioning - the intense distortion on the choruses is intentional.

Cover of the Day:

"Goin' Out West", released September 8th, 1992, Tom Waits, "Bone Machine"

Cover by the Queens Of The Stone Age, a b side from their "3's & 7's" EP, 2007

Today in Musical History, September 9th:

1927: Elvin Jones, drummer for the gods, b. Pontiac, MI

Cover of the Day:

Tom Waits covers two days in a row ? Blame Wait's 20-year-long habit of releasing albums in September.

"Heartattack And Vine", released 9/9/1980, Tom Waits, on "Heartattack And Vine", of course.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins version from his 1991 album "Black Music For White People"

The name of the album alone made me want it. After the sh*t he got for the "overt sexuality" of the original recording of ""I Put a Spell on You," we Caucasians deserved the hit.

Today in Musical History, September 10th:

2002: Peter Wolf releases his album, "Sleepless"

One of my favorites on the album, with "Homework" and "A Lot of Good Ones Gone." It's no surprise, I guess, that songs like "Growin' Pain" remind me of Dylan and the whole '60s Greenwich Village scene. I mean, duh. Hehehe.
