TBD on Ning

I am starting a new thread here mainly for purposes of my own catharsis. It is my intention, at least at this point, to make regular contributions. Of course, if anyone else has anything to add, they are more than welcome. If you have any input, please contribute.

Over a year ago I decided to deal head-on with my self-diagnosed adult attention disorder, (ADD). The inability to stay focused was becoming too stressful. I found myself sitting around watching the clock tick, yet I couldn’t keep “on task” with any project I started. Nothing was getting done and just starting something was becoming depressing.

The smart thing to do was probably to get professional help, so instead I decided to try to heal myself, at least as a first try. Cognitive therapy and pharmaceuticals (UGH) might be the approved way to go but I decided to try meditation first.

18 months and countless self-help books later, I still can’t bring myself to a regular, formal meditation program. But, along the way, I discovered informal mindfulness. Yes, I know it is the “Fad” right now. It is hard to navigate modern social trends without “tripping over” somebody extolling the benefits of mindfulness.

Let me add my voice to the chorus.

I agree

"People are people ...Mosquitos are mosquitos. Squirrels are squirrels ...Why get angry? Why resent it? Why expect anything different? It doesn’t change them, but it does change you. It makes you bitter, resentful, tired. Accept them. Adjust to them. Love them."
~ Ryan Holiday

Good point

"We are not always aware of this green and pleasant land because we are not really there. We are running into the future with our plans, or we are imprisoned in the past. ...The secret is to arrive in the present with this very step." ~ Sister Annabel Laity

"Peace - that sense of inner calm we all aspire to find - is not found by striving to attain it. It’s found only through residing fully and completely in what is, whether it be the most peaceful or the most tumultuous experience of our life." ~ Ezra Bayda

"In today's rush, we all think too much--seek too much--want too much--and forget about the joy of just being."

“if you’re getting angry cause the world isn’t loving enough, the paradox is just laughable … whoever wants peace better damn well be peaceful.” - BabaRamDass

~ Alan Watts

"Every single possible thing is interlinked. We are all dancing. Those who forget this cause the most harm."

"The human heart communicates with the mystery in which the universe is embedded, like those inland lakes that communicate underground with the ocean."
~ David Steindl-Rast

"Remember, it's awareness that heals. Awareness does not require thinking, analyzing, or judging - just clear, honest seeing. This includes seeing through the more subtle lies we tell ourselves..."
~ Ezra Bayda
