TBD on Ning

I am starting a new thread here mainly for purposes of my own catharsis. It is my intention, at least at this point, to make regular contributions. Of course, if anyone else has anything to add, they are more than welcome. If you have any input, please contribute.

Over a year ago I decided to deal head-on with my self-diagnosed adult attention disorder, (ADD). The inability to stay focused was becoming too stressful. I found myself sitting around watching the clock tick, yet I couldn’t keep “on task” with any project I started. Nothing was getting done and just starting something was becoming depressing.

The smart thing to do was probably to get professional help, so instead I decided to try to heal myself, at least as a first try. Cognitive therapy and pharmaceuticals (UGH) might be the approved way to go but I decided to try meditation first.

18 months and countless self-help books later, I still can’t bring myself to a regular, formal meditation program. But, along the way, I discovered informal mindfulness. Yes, I know it is the “Fad” right now. It is hard to navigate modern social trends without “tripping over” somebody extolling the benefits of mindfulness.

Let me add my voice to the chorus.

One of the main themes of Mindfulness is the value of embracing change. Tomorrow I have the opportunity to "Walk the walk" that to date, I have just been talking about. We sold our home in Ohio where I have lived all my life, and our new residence in California will not be live in ready until perhaps early February. The crystal ball is quite cloudy in between. Oh, for the life of a gypsy.

(I'm providing tomorrow's tidbit of wisdom a day early because the wi-fi will be off in a few hours. I may just have to learn how to use my phone,  but in the mean time, reporting to this column may become a bit irregular.)

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting,

So get on your way!"

~ Dr Seuss

"We tend to postpone being alive to the future, the distant future, we don’t know when. It’s as if now is not the moment to be alive. We may never be alive at all in our entire life. The only moment to be alive is in the present moment." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

"Identifying the pattern is awareness. Choosing not to repeat the cycle is growth.” ~Billy Chapata

"Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it." -- GROUCHO MARX

"Whenever I see someone with an abundance of empathy I want to ask what heartbreak they have endured, for compassion is often birthed in the valley of despair.” ~Zoe Clark-Coates
