TBD on Ning

I am starting a new thread here mainly for purposes of my own catharsis. It is my intention, at least at this point, to make regular contributions. Of course, if anyone else has anything to add, they are more than welcome. If you have any input, please contribute.

Over a year ago I decided to deal head-on with my self-diagnosed adult attention disorder, (ADD). The inability to stay focused was becoming too stressful. I found myself sitting around watching the clock tick, yet I couldn’t keep “on task” with any project I started. Nothing was getting done and just starting something was becoming depressing.

The smart thing to do was probably to get professional help, so instead I decided to try to heal myself, at least as a first try. Cognitive therapy and pharmaceuticals (UGH) might be the approved way to go but I decided to try meditation first.

18 months and countless self-help books later, I still can’t bring myself to a regular, formal meditation program. But, along the way, I discovered informal mindfulness. Yes, I know it is the “Fad” right now. It is hard to navigate modern social trends without “tripping over” somebody extolling the benefits of mindfulness.

Let me add my voice to the chorus.

"We work on ourselves in order to help others, but also we help others in order to work on ourselves." ~ Pema Chodron

"What we call our spiritual journey is the slow (often painfully slow) realization that this is it - it’s not about some magical moment, or the “perfect” meditation, or an idealized version of life. It’s just us, showing up, doing our best, opening our hearts. Breathe, this is it."  ~  Jason Garner

"People are more what they hide than what they show. Remember this and be extra kind. Seriously, we all need to learn to be more human these days. Keep a safe distance, but...

Don't avoid eye contact.
Don't hide behind gadgets.
Smile often.
Ask about people's stories.
Listen."

~  Marc and Angel Chernoff

Still working on how to express a smile through a mask.

Could it be in the eyes?

Hope it comes across that way, I'm not seeing it.

"Everything is ambiguous; everything is always shifting and changing, and there are as many different takes on any given situation as there are people involved. Trying to find absolute rights and wrongs is a trick we play on ourselves to feel secure and comfortable."
Pema Chodron

"So I can do nothing for you but work on myself. You can do nothing for me but work on yourself." ~ Ram Das

"Sometimes it takes real honesty w/ yourself to evolve rather than revolve. It’s important to grow through it & not just go through it."  ~  Brian Lewis

When a pickpocket meets a saint, he sees only his pockets. When a saint meets a pickpocket, he sees only his heart.

"THINGS falling apart... They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy." ~ Pema Chodron

"Becoming less reactive is a huge part of growth and decreasing stress. If you let everything get you worked up,  you're damaging  your mind, body and spirit."  ~  Tiny Buddah
