I don't want to have this turn into a political debate but I'm sick to my stomach reading about what happened in DC today. Our democracy is being hijacked. I'm hoping this will all end quietly. What are your thoughts?

Before I make a broader comment on the topic. I want to state my personal position. I am not trying to start a political debate but just stating where I am coming from. I believe that this turn of events exposes the current administration for what it is and should give pause to all the people who have been willing to "give a pass" to all of its past missteps.

Coming from a broader, more objective, and philosophical position, I am reminded of Shays' rebellion (1786-1787)and a quote from Thomas Jefferson in a letter written to James Madison.

" Even this evil is productive of good. It prevents the degeneracy of government and nourishes a general attention to the public affairs. I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. Unsuccessful rebellions, indeed, generally establish the encroachments on the rights of the people which have produced them. An observation of this truth should render honest republican governors so mild in their punishment of rebellions as not to discourage them too much. It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government."

Shays' Rebellion was instrumental in the development of the Constitutional Convention and as such, eventually abolishing the old Articles of Confederation which clearly were not working.

We are always told that we should learn from history.

If people would stop marrying their cousins there would be less inbred trash to participate in these events. Little to be done at this point, but the fascist pig and his boney-assed bitch will be gone in 13 days, but heaven only knows what hideous thing will happen next. Totally disgusting spectacle. The Canadian border is only 75 miles away and it's looking good to me.

I was greatly distressed by the events occurring in DC. I was so worn out from watching that I was physically tired. I could not believe that people could behave this way or that one in power could egg them one and refuse to call them off, even after someone was shot and died. Some say that impeachment or use of the 25th amendment is in order. I am glad that this reign of terror is almost finished.

The people that were breaking into Congress were ,I feel. white supremacists/domestic terrorists/proud boys etc. They are trump followers and should have been shot to death. Those protesting outside are a different story. We are allowed to peacefully protest. Some of the more radical ones should be arrested and serve jail terms. This is all trump's doing but I don't know what can be done. He's got, what, about 12 days left, and any legal actions are going to take longer than those 12 days.  I wish that there was some way to legally arrest him/confine him for those remaining days. I'd like to see in in an orange jumpsuit, jailed.

I had heard a rumor floating around that the plan (whose exactly was never said) was for Trump to resign just a few days before Biden was inaugurated, Pence would then be Prez for those few days & he'd then pardon Trump, letting him off the hook legally. If the rumor were true (and most aren't, I admit), maybe what just happened would keep that from happening. Just awful what happened, though; I was hoping that I'd never see stuff like this, just awful.

I heard that trump might resign but I'd be surprised. I don't think that it's his personality.  I wouldn't want him to resign because,as I'd said before,I'd like to see him doing prison time. Maybe he could "find" a boyfriend.  After what he's done,I want him experiencing pain.

I don't want Pence in office, not even for one day.

Me neither! The mind reels...I read some of the news stories on UK sites and holy red stapler are they shaking their heads over us, so sad, sad day for this country & democracy.

The world was watching and America looked like a bunch of idiots. I'm sickened by it. Truly a disgrace for our country. That man is a mental mess. Scarey.

Someone has to put a legal end to this and the 25th amendment sounds like a solid plan but Pence would need to put his big boy pants on to do that.  I just hope we make it to the 20th without any disasters with that maniac in office.

Boy, this sounds a lot like Boomerville

Well...isn't that too bad.
