TBD on Ning

I am starting a new thread here mainly for purposes of my own catharsis. It is my intention, at least at this point, to make regular contributions. Of course, if anyone else has anything to add, they are more than welcome. If you have any input, please contribute.

Over a year ago I decided to deal head-on with my self-diagnosed adult attention disorder, (ADD). The inability to stay focused was becoming too stressful. I found myself sitting around watching the clock tick, yet I couldn’t keep “on task” with any project I started. Nothing was getting done and just starting something was becoming depressing.

The smart thing to do was probably to get professional help, so instead I decided to try to heal myself, at least as a first try. Cognitive therapy and pharmaceuticals (UGH) might be the approved way to go but I decided to try meditation first.

18 months and countless self-help books later, I still can’t bring myself to a regular, formal meditation program. But, along the way, I discovered informal mindfulness. Yes, I know it is the “Fad” right now. It is hard to navigate modern social trends without “tripping over” somebody extolling the benefits of mindfulness.

Let me add my voice to the chorus.

"To feel the supreme and moving beauty of the spectacle to which Nature invites her ephemeral guests! … that is what I call prayer." —Claude Debussy

While Debussy's music clearly belongs to the realm of the creative arts, I see this quote as a perfect representation of my appreciation for the sciences. I am saddened by the perspective of the sciences as cold, close-minded killers of the mysteries of the cosmos. The awe of nature is still the driving force and remains in the body of any explanation tendered for reality.

"i never saw my mother
walk on water but
i saw her wait for the bus
in the snow to pay the rent

we define holy differently."

"The greatest curse is discontent. Only those who know when enough is enough will ever have enough."  ~  Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching #46

"If you are living your life worried about what others think, you are living their life." ~ Unknown

Drink water from the spring where horses drink. The horse will never drink bad water. Lay your bed where the cat sleeps. Eat the fruit that has been touched by a worm. Boldly pick the mushroom on which the insects sit. Plant the tree where the mole digs. Build your house where the snake sits to warm itself. Dig your fountain where the birds hide from heat. Go to sleep and wake up at the same time with the birds – you will reap all of the days golden grains. Eat more green – you will have strong legs and a resistant heart, like the beings of the forest. Swim often and you will feel on earth like the fish in the water. Look at the sky as often as possible and your thoughts will become light and clear. Be quiet a lot, speak little – and silence will come in your heart, and your spirit will be calm and full of peace.”

A total immersion into an awareness of Nature's wisdom. Trust it.

"Healing is opening up to the power and also to the beauty of change, letting go of our fear of it." ~ Brenda Shoshanna

“The whole world is an art gallery when you’re mindful. There are beautiful things everywhere- and they’re free” ~ Charles Tart

The eyes are always recording beauty. It takes effort to make the mind register it. Look with attention, open the filters.
