Is a hotdog a sandwich? Why or why not?

I think it is. I don't usually use hotdog buns but use a slice of my 12 grain bread.

I guess it could be. I never thought of it like that, but it makes sense.

I think hot dogs meet the definition of a sandwich, but I think they should be in a category all of their own. Truth be told, I can't remember the last time that I care a hot dog.

It depends on the context. If by hotdog you are referring only to the sausage-like piece of meat, no. But if your intention is to indicate the entire package, meat, bread wrapper, toppings, etc. , yes. No reason words can't mean different things in different contexts. I'm reminded of the debate on whether a tomato is a fruit or not.
