What do you feel are good conversation starters with new people you meet

I read somewhere that the best conversations starters with new people are to ask about their job and their families (espec. kids/grandkids). In my experience, seems like it works pretty good.

If it's a party, I like to ask how they met the hosts.

i believe any question that gets someone talking about themselves is a great topic.  We all like to show off.  Well, at least I do.
