When did your family put up the Christmas tree?

Growing up, we put the Christmas Tree up on Christmas Eve. We also opened gifts on Christmas eve. Later on, as we got older we then all went to midnight mass.

I still kept the tradition of opening gifts on Christmas eve with my own family, although we did put up the tree a few days before Christmas.

Of course, now I don't even put up a tree or go to midnight mass!

When I was younger our family put the tree up on Christmas Eve.  Maybe because it was a real tree.  If I put one up now, it is usually the weekend after Thanksgiving.  We opened our gifts on Christmas Eve too so we didn't have to get up so early on Christmas morning.

I wasn't going to do a tree this year but reading this post and the replies, I decided that just because I live alone doesn't mean I don't enjoy a tree so about two hours ago I went to the storage room and pulled out a tree and decorated it. It lifted my spirits.

When I was little, the tree appeared overnight...magical, because Santa Claus brought it, along with all the presents. The kids dad and I tried it one year....disaster because the dog knocked it over in the middle of the night. After that, I think we usually put it up about a week before. I barely decorated this year..just in my immediate area in the family room and minimally.

Haven't put up a tree for several years, but Josi does decorate inside and makes me put up lights outside. Target date for this starts at Thanksgiving. Primary gift opening for nuclear family has always been Christmas Eve because children always have had other commitments Christmas day, ex-parents, inlaws, etc.

I honestly don't remember, neither when I lived with my parents or afterward on our own. I haven't celebrated Christmas in over 26 years since becoming Muslim.

My Grandma always put the tree up on Christmas Eve when me and my brothers were sleeping. The excitement of seeing it on Christmas morning was awesome. Now I put up a tiny tree on December 1st.

When I was a kid we always put the tree up Dec 15th and took it down day after New Years. We have always opened gifts on Christmas Eve- always saved one for Christmas day from Santa. Not sure I am going to put up a tree this year0 with the new cat not sure I am ready to deal with the tree.

I don't remember when we put up the christmas tree growing up.  I do remember it was up for a while before Christmas.  Had a friend that one of six siblings and they all made it home for the celebration.  She recently passed at 102.
