Yesterday I got my birthday present.  A lightweight vacuum.  One that was here had to be 20 lbs heavier.  You'd think by now I'd be past getting excited over a new vacuum, but it's so much easier on my back.   Do you get excited over new things that are just necessities in life?

If it makes my life easier.  I got tired of fighting my upright when attaching upholstery and crevice and other tools so I ordered a canister vac yesterday.

I got very excited about the shower chair that I got for $10 at the American Legion rummage sale. I'll be safer and will ease my aching back and bad balance. It was still in the box, but easy for me to assemble....great deal.

MTwoman sounds like a great deal to me also.  I have two grab bars in the shower.  My problem is both bathrooms have tums and now walk in showers.  Syble it's been a lifetime ago that I had a cannister vacuum.  You're right about the tools on upright.  The new one is lighter so its' easier but the hose is short.  Yesterday I picked up and just vacuumed the sofa seats for dog hair.

I love my lightweight vacuum; it's cordless too which makes it a lot easier. I also last year bought a new cordless iron; I had to pay quite a bit to get a good one--tried less-expensive cordless irons & found out they were no good--but I just love this new one; I hate to iron so when I have to, I love having one that's easy to use.

I've been thinking about getting a lightweight vacuum for the last few months. My vacuum is not that old and I don't know what I'd do with it. I thought maybe I could sell it to the co-op because there's nothing wrong with it except it's heavy and cumbersome. And once a week they have someone vacuuming the hallways but a smaller vacuum is in our hall...don't know about other buildings.

Does you vacuum have all the attachments? What make and model is it Helen?

OED the new one is a Bissell.  $59 on Walmart.com  OfficerRipley there is an iron here in the house.  No ironing board.  I use it on the long kitchen counter with a towel under what I'm ironing, but I only use it for when I need to hem pants with that sticky tape.   As for ironing for the sake of ironing, not since I retired.  Since moving to TN 2 years ago I have found the place I've been searching for all my life.  Everyone is casual.  When we go out I have a couple of nice things I wear but I stopped buying clothes just because.  Now it's because they're too big or too old.

No ironing here either...maybe dinner napkins for holiday dinners, but don't know that is going to happen again. My ironing board weighs a ton, so that is a deterrent. Like you, Helen, just a tub/shower combo...all the more reason for the shower chair. Next will be a hand held shower. The shower with back was indeed a screaming deal.
