TBD on Ning

Ready for a new one? May we try something different? I have been tripping of late through my old tunes and find many memories stirred through the process. They are coming out in my haikus. Loose rules here except for the 5-7-5 standard. Write a haiku about your favorite tune, capture favorite lines from your song, write about your favorite songwriter or however you choose to do it. You can tell what the song is if you like or have your friends guess. Let's have some fun here and bring back some of our favorite tunes. Might be a way of honoring our "heroes" of younger years. Below are a couple of haikus from our prior discussions as examples:

I talk to the wind
time to say goodbye my dear
the wind does not hear

(by Scott Williamson in 'Goodbye and Wind')

OR -

c'mon and touch me
can't you see I'm not afraid
c'mon touch me babe

Heard this yesterday and imagined being 18 again--Draughn and I, happy and excited, embarking on a cross-country trip to look for America. I love you and miss you, Beloved. So many places I wanted to see through your beautiful, historian's eyes.

filled with nostalgia...
let's look for america
and never turn back

where you gonna go
hiding your heart from past hurt
lonely one more night

it's stealing your life
what you're keeping to yourself
it keeps you runnin'

When my beloved Draughn was still teaching college history (before he became a VP of Academic Affairs), he would always open class with a song--which I think was really cool. He tried to align the song in some way with his lecture. I just listened to a recording of one of his lectures in which he touched on British imperialism and its ultimate failure in the American colonies. He played this song...

when i ruled the world
seas would rise at my command
now i sleep alone

be my sword and shield
my precious emissary
the world has grown dark

Listening to this on a tape I have talking with Draughn on a weekend at his office. I labeled the tape, "Hangin' with the Prof" because he was working as we shared some "quiet" music-filled time together. I miss you so, Baby. It just gets worse as time goes on.

go up on the roof
when this old world gets you down
i'll be waiting there

Even though it's about a potentially sad thing, this song always makes me smile and dance. It was played at all the African American family reunions in DC, and the song makes me think of the birth of my son, summer, good times, and--barbecue. LOL.

I'm dancing with you Draughn, Baby, licking barbecue sauce off your luscious lips...

you make me happy
and I really love you boy
don't want to let go

in my heart and soul
we're together forever--
my longing arms reach...

Another of the many songs you sent to me, which I found as I'm copying our PMs.

look what you've done love
after all is said and done
you're the only one

Gordon Peterson with backing vocals by Brenda Russell and Joni Mitchel. Guitarist--David Rhodes (Peter Gabriel).

shelter from the sun
understanding and comfort
love beyond measure

you are joy and pain
joy is your eternal love
pain is your absence

Another of our songs.

your kiss tops my list...
one of the best things in life
i miss it each night

Here's a song you sent that I'd forgotten.

You said: "It evokes my vision of you when you were younger, the feeling of you, the girl of dreams, navigating your exceptional way through the routines and the mundane to chart your own course. You are exceptional. I love you so."

you're my ship of dreams...
riding on the diamond waves
warm wind in your hair

I love you so, Draughn.

More "Songs From the Notes." :>) Smoooooth Gerry Rafferty.

if you get it wrong
you'll sure get it right next time
i have faith in you
