Have you been to Wowbrary?  I go there to look through magazines but I can get books too.  It is linked to my library and I just put in my zip code and signed up.  I believe when I first signed up I had to put in my Library card number so you have to have that.  But it is a good way to look at book and magazines.  Have any of you tried it?
