RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT!

My favorite month is here! Forgive me but must do the lyrics from Maxwell Anderson:

"Oh, it's a long, long while From May to December, But the days grow short, --------When you reach September. When the autumn weather turn the leaves to flame One hasn't got time----for the waiting game, Oh, the days dwindle down------to a precious few, September, November! And these few precious days I'll spend with you, These precious days I'll spend with you. "

Last night started an engrossing book addressing our attachment to dogs and what can be accomplished with unconditional love. The book, a new release, is THE UNDERDOGS by Melissa Fay Greene. It deals with service dogs for seriously disabled children. If you've ever loved a dog, check out this book!

Happy September!

Don't you wish today's lyrics were so meaningful... watched AGT last nite and the young 12 yr old singer who played the ukulele to her own music was hailed as the next rising star... I think I would have liked her lyrics if she had annunciated them... with her wispy voice and mouth behind the mike all I could understand was "Me & You, you & me... and something about light in the sky..."   and she got the top votes from the viewers...   ????

dog book...  hmm... maybe.  after losing out beloved "Boo" in April, we are currently dogless but have put in for approval by the Shih Tzu Rescue of WI and will wait for the right pup to come our way...    sigh...

Bookwise:  I have discovered 2 new authors and am busy reading their series... I have finished the first 2 in the Mckenzie series for Housewright... very good with a bit of humor (think Myron Bolitar) ...here's a link:

https://www.fantasticfiction.com/h/david-housewright/

The other new author is Julia Keller. I'm reading Summer of the Dead right now and enjoying it...

Rapa, I love that song too!  Beautiful lyrics.

I finished The Last Mile yesterday. It took a while, because I read much of it in bits and pieces on my trip. But it was a great story; Baldacci at his best.

Now I have started Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. I'm not sure if it is Fantasy or Science Fiction or some other genre, but it's really good and very hard to put down. The main character goes out, leaving his wife and teen aged son at home, to have a drink with an old friend at a bar and to pick up some ice cream for desert. On the way home he is forced at gun point to go to some strange place, then escapes only to find he is in a completely different world. He locates the woman he was married to, except in this new world he isn't married to her and, by her accounts, never was, and...very strange and weird, but I can't put the book down.

Now I think I’ll find The September Song by Kurt Weill on YouTube and play it over and over again. Love that song!

The Underdogs looks to be a really interesting read

I am always amazed at the special relationship we have with dogs. Even more intriguing is why are dogs so attached and so loyal to us. True that we feed them and house them and pet them but their affection is really special. You do the same to cats and horses but they don't reciprocate like that. Worse, some people can be mean to their dogs but the dog remains loyal and affectionate to that owner.

Here is a synopsis about the book and a very good video:

RAPA ...thanks for the starter!!!

I've ditched so many books in August! Have no real addition to the discussion. Posting because I want to get notifications!

I'm picking up on Stephen Kings book ...which I started in early summer. Still not enjoying. I've got several on hold to pick up over the Holiday weekend.

Hurricane Hermine ...been watching as all my kids in Orlando, Miami, Fort Meyers and Fort Lauderdale. My son-in law is VP at Ale House/Orlando...packed up rolling food truck and traveling to Tallahassee to bring hot food to those without power. Last seen at Univeristy Dorms to help out.

Beautiful weather in NE Ohio for Holiday. Don't hear that from me very often. Barb sent around a photo of snow covered cars, trees, etc. reminding us that this will be coming soonly!
Your son-in-law is a saint! God bless him!!!!

Like you, haven't found a really engrossing book lately. Have a stack of five by my bed that I pick up at random. Have read a couple non-fiction, one about how probate judges often manipulate the placement of people into nursing home. Now reading about training dogs to be service dogs.

Have not seen any good reviews about the movie THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS. Did find the book enjoyable!

Did see Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant in FLORENCE this week. Both laughed and cried. Now researching the life of Florence Jenkins. Love research!

Hope your children had no major damage from the hurricane. It's been quite a few years since the last hurricane visited. I have great respect for Mother Nature!!!

'night...........

Rapa, I saw The Light Between Oceans yesterday and enjoyed the movie, even shed a few tears. The movie has beautiful scenery and pretty much stuck to the book....plus good performances from the actors. Only complaint is I would have liked to see more of Bryan Brown. Remember him from The Thornbirds? I had such a major crush on him back then, and he still looks good. I managed to be the first person to check out the new Louise Penny book, A Great Reckoning, from my library. I'm about 100 pages in and think it's one of her best, but then I usually feel that way.

Just ordered THE LEISURE SEEKER per Lyn's recommendation in comments. Fortunately our library
system has a couple copies and should get it by Tues.

Last night started a new Joyce Carol Oates small collection of psychological mysteries. Book is THE DOLL MASTER and is thoroughly holding my interest.
Nothing of real interest to report.

The House Secrets by Brad Meltzer was so engrossing for the first 3/4 of the book...and then it went into some sort of contrived solutions?

Widow Maker by Paul Doiron...yup, it is Mike Bowditch the Maine Forest Ranger who is known to break all the rules. This time the story gets sidetracked all over the place...I lost interest and didn't even finish the thing.

Invisible Infleuence ...non-fiction. Blew my mind...especially about baby naming and what helps people to conserve energy.

Being Mortal by Atul Gawande....recommended by a friend and Sparkpeople put out an ad for it as well. Just starting it but does involve the aging population. In my case with care/custody of 95 year old Mother-in-law it's probably relevant.

Just picked up at Library on my way home...The Black Widow by Daniel Silva...see how it goes.

Just had 3 extractions, 3 dental implants pounded into my jaw so been layin' low with pain meds.
OUCH!!, Carolyn. Now I don't believe all those TV commercials advertising painless implants!

Thought that BEING MORTAL was an excellent, informative book about aging. I could relate!!!!!

Today picked up Louise Penny's A GREAT RECKONING and Sandra Brown's STING. Have looked forward to both.

Our book club read Being Mortal- about 1/2 liked it and 1.2 didn't- I have recommended to lots of friends- think is something in there for everyone.
