I finished FINDERS KEEPERS and now 3/4 finished MR. MERCEDES.
Don't know how Stephen King does it, but can he ever tell a story! I get totally engrossed with his characters.

It has been a bad two weeks, with my better half being laid low in the hospital all last week with A Fib and some intestinal blockage. This was not a time for reading but now we are on the recovery cycle with visits to doctors, pharmacies, clinics and the like. The last incident when I was a full time care giver was over 15 years ago, so I had better brush up on my skills. I also had better take time to pace myself and spend some hours on my favorite pastime. I did manage to get in a lovely fat-to-thinness book called "It Was Me All Along" by Andie Mitchell. http://www.amazon.com/It-Was-Me-All-Along/dp/0770433243 I am now on the ever entertaining Balducci and his latest, "Memory Man," an Amos Decker adventure. Back to pills, meal making and scheduling of visits. Thank also to Amazon, as I was able to purchase some needed medial supplies at great prices, no store shopping and free delivery in two days.

Mandy and rapa, good luck with your ministering... hope all goes well for both of you. I've been the one down on the couch the last few days... with acute bronchitis/pneumonia... started some strong meds yesterday so hope they kick in soon.

I recently finished Woof by Spencer Quinn and Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King. Woof was almost too cutesy but guess that's to be expected for the preteen crowd. Mr M... was chilling to say the least. Swimming in the mind of a mass murderer when you're not feeling well is not much fun.

I have Paw & Order by Spencer Quinn up next. Hopefully that will be more cheerful. Chet always makes me smile with his doggy observations.

You have to read "Finders, Keepers" which is kind of a sequel as it uses the Detective from "Mr Mercedes" as a significant character. King is a on a roll again with a nice theme for his generally macabre stories.

Mandy and Rappa, I am with you. My best friend and neighbor is going thru breast cancer, her sister lives in PA and her son chooses not to be involved, so its me. Never done anything like this, but we are muddling thru. So many appointments to keep lined up. Good luck to you both. Not getting much reading done, id read the book club book for net week "A Sense Of Ending" short, did not ge tthe point o fit so will be glad to go to the club and see what others are thinking of it.

MANDY...Sorry to hear about your better half being ill and yes I know the whole action of being caregiver! Like you said...medications, sorting and procuring and reminding to take. Special foods which means more trips to handle. Always watchful for deeper problems. A work in progress.

CARCI...Pneumonia! This is the second case I have learned about in 24 hours! In Ohio the highest patient count is in April. BUT JULY??? My son had a fit when I told him I never got the preventative shot for this disease. This Fall I am putting it on the TO-DO list.

FINDERS KEEPERS. We order on AudioBook. My DH...AKA ACTION MAN can't stop listening!!! Even at work he is hooked up to the CD PLAYER and tunes out everyone and everything!!! I will grab it soon as he is finished. I loved MR. MERCEDES...him not so much but he is definitely hooked on this book!

EAGLE...Breast cancer protocols are challenging even for family! Our neighbor contracted and I must say it did indeed "take a village" to cope with DOC visits, meals, etc. there were always cars in and out...our neighbors prepared meals, her parents came to stay, her sister...all in shifts. STAY STRONG! You are my Hero of the day!

Reading John Lescroart's THE FALL. It is a good mystery. Not great ,but I am sticking with it. Cast aside a few other mysteries...don't even remember names or Authors.

Still reading A Woman of Substance...200 pages to go! 750+ volume. Going camping this weekend and leaving it behind. No way to concentrate with having another couple along in their rig...all hanging out around the campfire.

For the chicks:

I'm also planning to listen to The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. That dang book has been in the Top 10 best sellers for non fiction for weeks!

If you are really into Greg Iles: "The Bone Tree" is out.

Greg Iles has been called the modern day Faulkner, placing many of his novel in Mississippi. Unfortunately, in 2011 Iles lost his leg in a auto accident and was laid up for several months. So he directed his writing talents to the ultimate story of the South and it's dubious record of civil rights. He produced about three thousand pages of historical fiction that started off with "Natchez Burning," then progressed to "The Bone Tree," which I just picked up at the local library and plans to follow up with a third novel in 2017. https://www.goodreads.com/series/151179-the-natchez-burning-trilogy

It takes a lot of interest and some strong wrists to wade through the two books, with "The Bone Tree" rounding out at 804 pages. Hey, for $14.95 I can get the Kindle edition. Nah, free is free. I love the guy's writing.

At 2:00 this morning finished my token summer beach read, THE MELODY LINGERS ON by the octogenarian Mary Higgins Clark. She has incorporated billionaires, wives, mistresses, precocious children, FBI, heartache into a nice, fast suspenseful read. Are you finding any relaxing reads during this hot summer? Triple digits here!
