No bear, but I did catch this critter on one of my trail cams earlier this year, a beautiful animal. As a kid I really enjoyed reading about the lives of individual animals. I remember one, The Vixen that followed a female fox from birth to death. I don't see any books like that any more. I would still enjoy reading realistic accounts of an animal's life.
And now the escaped convicts are in western Pa. - comin your way? Hope not. Love the wrong places...LOL
When we were in Alaska several years ago, saw this huge-to me at least -bear just rambling down the highway, improve, but glad I was locked in a car and moving in the opposite direction. the greatest wildlife encounter I have ever seen was here in Colo. I would guess the coyote got a little too close to a fawn as the deer was chasing the coyote, right on his tail.
I ran across a few bears in my hiking days. I stay well clear of them, as mostly they want berries. I attended a nature and sea life life conference in Seward, Alaska and our instructor was an expert on bears. He said the worst place to encounter a bear was in the water, as the bear considers you to be poaching on his feeding place. We viewed bears from a distance in our tours around the area. The other dangerous bear is a mama with cubs. She will attack at any provocation.
As long as we are still interested in books, I can only think of John Irving as an author who wrote about bears. "The Hotel New Hampshire" was a classic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hotel_New_Hampshire
We have bears near our Northern WI getaway almost every year. Last year there was a mama with 2 cubs who perched in a large tree between our cottage and the water. She stayed up there for about 4 hours, then we had to leave for awhile and when we got back she & the cubs were gone.
We have hummingbird feeders and if the bears can reach them, they pull them right to the ground and drink the sweet nectar. Our neighbor left a bushel of apples on his screened porch a few years back and the bear came right through the screen to get them.
Right here in our Milwaukee suburb, a doe walked down the paved road last week, stopped to gaze at our little 'Boo' dog, who just gazed back and never barked. We decided Boo thought the deer was our neighbor's Great Dane and the deer thought Boo was a big squirrel... lol
On the book front: I just finished After I'm Gone by Laura Lippman. It was OK. The ending was not satisfying to me so I'm not recommending it highly.
I have The Boys In The Boat, The Nightingale, and A Man Called Ove all waiting for me at the library so I'm off to get them this PM... thanks to all for those recommendations. :)
Carolyn, remember that 'Pooh' bear liked honey... lol
When I got to the library today... surprise!... a fourth book was also waiting... What She Left Behind by Ellen Marie Wiseman... of the 4, this was the only 7 day book so it gets read first!
I have had all these books on request for several months and now they all come in at once!
Fortunately, after my granddaughters wedding last weekend and my grandson's HS grad party this weekend, we are going up north for a few days where I will have lots of reading time. :)
Back to the animals- the last time I was in Alaska, my son lives very near downtown Alaska, a momma moose and her twin
babies sen all one after noon in his back yard. We had book club yesterday- had read about Nelly Bly and 80 days. Out of all of our book club only 2 people liked it. Next month we are reading leaving time.
I'm in the middle of "Doing Harm"by Kelly Parsons. Lots of juicy medical inside stuff going on from a doctor/writer. I'm not eating any more bananas if potassium can kill you that easily. I have "The Last Days of Dogtown" by Anita Diamant lined up next, which will bring me to Cape Ann, Massachusetts in the early 19th century.
