"And what is so rare as a day in June? Then, if ever, come perfect days." said James Russell Lowell.

My response is "A sunny day in Texas!"......and thank goodness on this June 1 it will be!

I've started reading Jeffery Deaver's new release SOLITUDE CREEK. What are you reading?

Just finished, A Man Called Ove, and it is the best book I've read this year. Thanks rapa!

I, too, finished it last night, after rereading several parts. This was quite a love story! Terrific character development! Was an excellent treatment for my dry eye syndrome. Will not forget Ove and Sonja. Am happy you enjoyed it, Slopok!

He has a new book out this week - My Grandmother Asked Me To

Tell you She's Sorry - if you  are interested.

I've got Grandmother on hold!

Just finished Turning Angel by Greg Iles.  Liked the book and the author - will be reading more of his booksl Like the Mississippi background.  A friend read it and did not really like it as well as Blood Memory, but I did.  Have a Coulter book up next.  Keep reading everyone - my list grows and grows.  LOL

Just finished "The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry" by Gabrielle Zevin.  This has got to be a booklover's classic, as a bookseller on a Mass. island called Alice, but really Nantucket, inherits a abandoned 2 year old girl, then falls in love with one of his publisher's agents, a quirky lady from Providence.  I was born and raised in the Providence RI area and once spent a week living in an artist colony on Nantucket, so it was like going home.  One of the themes is booksellers vs. E-books, which is very timely.

Starting "Wired" by Douglas Richards, which is a techno-thriller. http://www.amazon.com/WIRED-Douglas-E-Richards-ebook/dp/B007EWJBIE

Slopok, GRANDMOTHER awaits me at the library. May have to swim down to fetch her!

Am currently not able to reply to posts on this site. Frustrating! Anyone else having the same problem? Have tried to contact Eddie Dingo

No, I'm not having a problem making a reply, but from what I see on this site it is slowly fading in activity.  There are no blogs anymore, except for religious ones.  And little is going on in the way of group discussions.  I wonder how long it will last?  Most of the other discussion web sites have moved to Facebook.  The only problem is you need to use your real name on Facebook.  i don't think it makes any difference when discussing books.  It may in politics, which I have sworn off as I am too old to really care about anymore.

I got a message at the top saying I am no longer following this group discussion and should update my e-mail preferences?????

Not sure what they mean because it seems to be coming through just fine....

MANDY...you nailed it on participation on various chat forums. I have belonged to Sparkpeople since late 2006...the site seems bizzy enough...supposed to have 7 million subscribers but all the Groups that I used to belong to have folded. My Team which is Private and I am the Founder and Administrator still has 12 active members which is a successful number. Anymore than that and members feel left out, any less and members get bored.

The Groups/Teams on that Forum seem to be willing to make Twitter type commentary or emoticons to describe their feelings. Not exactly a path to deeper friendships.

Now, all that being said...the Senior age folks are willing to share their lives with 200 words + but the under 50 ...not so much.

I do appreciate RAPA and the loyal members here that share their reading and life experiences...the Victories and the "things they are working on."
350 Pound Black Bear crept within 20 feet of our campsite this weekend in Northwest Pennsylvania. Dan'l bolted to camper to retrieve and load a weapon which he fired 2 shots in the air. Mr. Bear slink away silent as a cat! Our Camping Pals and myself stood gasping at the event.

Nelson DeMille's book "Radient Angel" was my book action task. I'm going to pirate a phrase from a book critic on USA TODAY. Not plausible. (From another book selection )Gave up at the 1/2 way point.

Started Brad Meltzer's The President's Shadow. So far, so good.

Wow Carolyn - did you sleep at all that night.  I could not have.  Have camped in Montana and Wyoming - bears - big ones (grizzlies) were there but never came around close.  Food was kept safely out of harms way.  The guides carried big guns but fortunately never had use for them.  Have seen cinnamon and black bears in the mountains but they usually ran if you came up on them.  Think I would stay home if they had. LOL.  Good luck on never having this experience again.  We did have the experience of a loud noise outside our tent in the middle of one night - no bear, just a horse who came around to pee  down on the tent.  Good laugh over that one.
