"And what is so rare as a day in June? Then, if ever, come perfect days." said James Russell Lowell.

My response is "A sunny day in Texas!"......and thank goodness on this June 1 it will be!

I've started reading Jeffery Deaver's new release SOLITUDE CREEK. What are you reading?

Just started the third book in The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.  I know I'm way late in reading this series, but I watched the first season while visiting my sister last year and loved it, but I don't have Starz, so I'm loving the books instead.  But haven't the books always been better than the movies??!!

My perfect day would be a warm sunny day in late April or early May in northern Wisconsin...  when the wildflowers are just starting to come alive and the mosquitoes aren't...  lol

I recently finished The Rosewood Casket by Sharyn McCrumb, one of her Smokey Mountain Ballad series.  I am currently over 1/2 way through The Serpent and The Staff by Barbara Wood, set in 1400 BC in Syria.  Nobody weaves a historical novel better than she.

Chilly couple days in NE OHIO....Furnace on last night and today!!! Shorts last week, sweaters today!

DOING HARM by Kelly Parsons (male)

This book is now #2 on my most favorite list since LEAVING TIME!

A bit of a slow start but YIKES! what a mystery!

Stephen King says it is the best Medical mystery he has read in 25 years!
Harlan Corben says DOING HARM is terrific, compelling, gripping and terrifying!

Yes, I loved the explanations of medical procedures...think FLOWER has background in this field but now I understand a whole bunch more about all sorts of actions that people tell me regarding their testing and surgeries. ALSO...I enjoyed the evolution of a Doctor's attitude regarding his field of study.
DOING HARM is going on my reserve list. Thanks, Carolyn!
You're right, Carolyn, DOING HARM does start slowly but when the chill hits bundle up good and enjoy the ride. Needless to say that the next time I'm hospitalized, memories of this story will give me pause!

Yes you are right - spent a few years as a nurse.  Now qualify for private one for my handicapped hubby.  Without pay or perks.  However did you know this?  Psychic?  You now have added another writer to my long list of books to read Carolyn.  I am currently reading Greg Iles- Turning Angel.  Plan more books of his to be read.  Just heard last of cool weather until fall/winter in these here hills.  LOL.  Love your comments

Having spent 15 years in health care management, the incident of iatrogenic illness is a major concern to quality of care.  I once participated in studies conducted by Iameter, a medical practice measurement service, where modern management techniques were used to detect and correct medical mistakes or just plain mismanagement.  One highlight of my career was giving expert testimony to the Ohio State Senate Committee on Health Care in the early 90s, on our Iameter project in Cincinnati, Ohio's hospital system. I also have my request in for "Doing Harm." I am an avid reader of medical novels, especially those of Robin Cook, Palmer and others who write this genre.

Just picked up DOING HARM and can't wait to start it.  Thank you for the recommendation, Carolyn!  Trying to fit in a little reading between my middle grandson's track season, great-granddaughter's first birthday and getting ready for same grandson's high school graduation.  He'll be returning to Ohio for college and my house is going to be very empty.  More time for reading but empty nevertheless.  Will be making trips to Ohio as often as possible...

Hang on tight when reading DOING HARM! Very chilling story!

I will, thanks!  Will my years of experience working in hospitals (nurse and midwife) help or make it worse?!

Hot of the press

I just picked up the latest Stephen King, "Finders Keepers" at the local library.  It has a June 2nd publication date and a fresh, new copy was sitting on the shelf of the "Express" one week borrow shelf.  I have had a love-hate relationship with King over the many years I have been reading him. (He has written 50 books.) His first books were a joy to read and I would never miss one.  But they got more and more macabre and para-normal to the point that I just did not enjoy the experience and was often wondering what the hell was he writing about.  This one is supposed to be a fairly normal detective story about an eccentric author who has years of manuscripts stolen before he is killed.  The killer spends years in prison for some other crime, meanwhile a poor family finds the stolen books.  It is a well told tale.

I am planning a trip to the East Coast and Canada this summer that will take me through Louise Penny country in the Eastern Townships of Quebec (PQ) and Bangor, Maine.  Of course, Stephen King makes his home in Bangor.  Here it is:

Mandy, Is this Steven King's house?  The spiderweb gate is a nice touch...

I just finished Envy The Night by Michael Koryta.  Good book, fast paced story line, well developed characters, good ending.

I'm starting The Wicked Girls by Alex Marwood.  It was nominated for an Edgar so should be good.
