"Isn't it appropriate that the month of the tax begins with April Fools Day and ends with cries of 'May Day? " (Unknown)

Now that I've settled with Uncle Sam and have that monkey off my back, will treat myself to some good reading. Did finish a hard to put down murder mystery with a phenomenal ending. Check out THE KIND WORTH KILLING:a novel by Peter Swenson.

Currently am fully engrossed in Allen Eskens's THE LIFE WE BURY. Soo nice having some time to get back to relaxing with my stories.

What are you reading now?

Lip Service. CUBA STRAIGHTS...I hear you on the whole Sports action in other Countries...especially such an American tradition as Baseball.

Not to brag or highlight my involvement with Cuban influx into FLORIDA but I was at the forefront of teen kids coming into our high school in 1957. They were so eager to embrace the whole lifestyle and and quickly learned English (even tho not spoken at home)... To fit in with all the classmates and grasp our way of life.

I guess the action in the book was just too off the wall...and you would have to try to read it to understand my reluctance in accepting how a drunken sailer wanna be is going to achieve this Goal of getting to CUBA and back with no issues?

If you want to know THE REAL DEAL about the Cuban "invasion" of South Florida...I recommend the book "THE TRIPLE PACKAGE"...how Cubans fought their way to amazing Financial, Professional and Politcal greatness. How when they tried to rent an Apartment were deterred by signs saying "NO DOGS, NO CUBANS"...

That book also will give pride to Asians, Jewish as well as Cuban heritage in America. Loved the book.

I will never forget my classmate who was so happy his father found a job. Landscaping! His Father was a Doctor in Cuba. The plan was for the Father to get enrolled in College in Miami to get certified to practice in the US.

HOPE EVERYONE HAD A happy EASTER. We made leg of lamb. Broiled to sear the roast, then added veggies...put back in oven hit 325 and failed to press the RESTART button. Meal was fabulous...but a bit later than planned.

Still learning about our home since moving in last Summer!!! Sounds like a good excuse!!!

Finished The Escape by Baldacci. It had 4 1/2 stars on Amazon, but I gave it a 3 1/2. I guess I'm a little jaded with the "loner agent" ,with a little help, saves the country.

I read Davy Crockett's biography  a while back and read that Davy disliked Andrew Jackson intensely.I got the impression he looked upon Jackson as an arrogant elitist, so to get the other side of the story I've started American Lion: Andrew Jackson In The White House  byJon Mecham. The first chapter sounds like it could apply today.

Finished a couple books in the past week. First, The Cold Nowhere by BrIan Freeman. I found it ok, just a notch above so-so. I guess neither term qualifies as important critical terminologies in book reviews, but I don’t write for the N.Y. Times, either. (Of course, this isn't a "review.") I thought Freeman wandered off into the protagonist’s and other characters’ sexual desires and activities too often.

This afternoon I finished Tess Gerritsen’s latest Rizzoli & Isles mystery, Die Again. I have always liked Gerritsen’s  books, and this one was no exception. It was somewhat different than her others, in that much of the action took place in the remote bush of Africa and tied into the behavior of the big cats. This one I definitely recommend.

Just finished Anna Quindlen's book- Blessings.  It is an older book and I am trying out a few new authors - really liked this one and will read more of her.  Now reading The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen.  Would recommend both books.

On tues 1/2 of our book club went to the movies to see the Lady in Gold (maybe the girl in gold) which ever it was great movie and after went to lunch to discuss it. We have been trying to go to movies made from books once a month. Going to bring it up at our next book club and the 1/2 that didn't go will  wish that they did. Our book for this month is Still Life With Bread crumbs.

I just finished The Girl On The Train.  With over 700 people waiting for this at the library I expected a dynamite book.  It was just OK.  I can never understand the appeal of reading a story about dysfunctional families... unhappy people, unhappy stories.  Is that supposed to make us think our lives are so much better?   lol

I guess I prefer books that are uplifting or humorous in some way. Even though a book may have unhappy things in it, the main character should be someone you like and cheer for...  This book had no one I cared about...  enough said!

I am now reading Endangered by C.J. Box.  I can always cheer for Joe Picket and his family .  :)

CARCI, agree with you that the book wasn't as dynamic as I expected. I found it somewhat tiresome reading but really did like the ending.
Am still waiting for ENDANGERED to come in for me. In the meantime have started Laura Lippman's HUSH.

I started The Girl On The Train and after A few pages I set it aside and probably won't read it. Just couldn't get into the story.

wise decision...   :)

Carci, I must admit you were the first person I thought of after reading The Girl on the Train because I tend to enjoy books about dysfunctional people and I remembered you don't.  I'm not sure what that says about my life experiences, but so be it.  I enjoyed this book and the ending was a wonderful surprise as it had not occurred to me.

Haven't been posting much lately, but do continue to enjoy a good book.  I'm currently working my way through The Outlander series.  My sister loves the show, but I don't subscribe to the Starz network, so I'm reading the books.  Am amazed that there are so many books in the series; I probably won't read them straight through.

By the way, I'm headed to New York City tomorrow to see my niece Kathryn perform at Carnegie Hall as a member of the Phoenix Symphony Chorus, plus spending the week in NJ visiting my sister Liz.  Life is good!

Safe travels and have fun!!!!!!

Ursula, I also dislike movies/shows about dysfunctional families and people... maybe I've lived with too many...  lol

I like a movie or book that puts a smile on my face and warmth in my heart... or a good thriller/mystery where a woman, child or dog beats the bad guy...   :)
