Love Bertrand Russell
There is an issue that comes up, the motivation to enjoy a book is more like a hope that one will indeed enjoy it.
On Bookohilics, I have noticed a few more motivations, one of them is that the book is by an author that one has enjoyed in the past and the expectation that the new book will be more of the same, for example Louise Penny or Janet Evanovich have a loyal following (but I think many have tired of Evanovich of late)
The other motivation is that one is interested in a specific type of books (for example mysteries or action) and one is consulting the latest offering of that types.
Another motivation is curiosity about an author or book about which there is a buzz. The Goldfinch comes to mind in that category
I read this very interested book, ` THE KEY` by Junichiro, I recommend this book to all to read it and enjoy it.
He is not a favorite of mine either.
I think that anyone who appreciates good writing, should appreciate Bertrand Russell. Back when I was in college, I read his stuff with regularity. I am only disappointed that today I can't seem to find his works in my library system. That said, I don't agree with his comment about motives for reading. Of course readers enjoy reading; otherwise, they wouldn't be readers. But there are many and varied reasons for doing so.
