TBD on Ning

I was not familiar with the National Banned Book Week and that it is being celebrated this week in America.  However, my book library system, Library Thing, reminded me today and published a listing of about 150 books that have been banned, connecting them with the ones I have cataloged. I wasn't too sure if I was expected to be proud of the number I had read.  I can't hypertext it over here as the service requires a password and has a $25 lifetime fee for using it.  But here is a hypertext on a Huffington Post story:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/22/banned-books-week-infograp...

My most recent banned book read is probably one of the most gripping novels of the year and I believe is being made into a movie: "Looking for Alaska."  http://www.amazon.com/Looking-Alaska-John-Green-ebook/dp/B000YI1K0C...

I don't understand this.  If you don't want your child reading a book don't let them.  If you don't like a book put it down and don't pick it back up and don't recommend it.  But if another adult person wants to read it that's up to them.   That's just how I feel about it.

"The Things They Carried"...certainly NOT a normal choice for me but I lived that era and even though it was hard reading/listening (which was even more compelling) it made me realize what so many of my friends had to cope with.
