It's been a while since I checked in -- and have to figure my way around the site again. Just finished Louise Penny's LONG WAY HOME -- would give it an "ok" - not as good as her past books, but I will stick with her because I know she will continue the saga. Also -- just finished (I guess this makes these August reads) THE INVENTION OF WINGS -- enjoyed it very much. Has anyone read THE SECRET KEEPER? Bought it -- but can't get into it.

If you are a fan of his books, you will enjoy this one as well. A few different twists in this one and find that almost anything I say will be a "spoiler".

I'm thoroughly enjoying a gem of a trade paperback THE THOUGHTS AND HAPPENINGS OF WILFRED PRICE PURVEYOR OF SUPERIOR FUNERALS by Wendy Jones who teaches and lives in London.
This book has been optioned for a miniseries by the producers of Downton Abbey. It's humor is generous and never mean spirited. The awkward all-too-human search for love is depicted with emotional honesty, forever seeking the answer to the question: How can we fully live our lives without hurting other people? This novel is written in slightly old fashioned language and the story will linger in your mind long after you've finished it. I just happened upon this book on the new book shelf at the library.

I read, A Fighting Chance, by Elizabeth Warren last month. A well written book that most working folks can relate to. It will be interesting to follow this woman's actions over the coming months and years.

"The Heist" by Daniel Silva is ripped from today's headlines. There is no doubt in my mind that Silva is the best in the spy novel business right now. In his own terms he uses chiarosocuro, or a talent for delicate shading in his stories. His hero is a master art restorer, who doubles as a spy. In this latest novel, Grariel Allon is trying to foil the attempt by the Syrian ruling family and their cronies to convert their ill-gotten money into stolen paintings in case they need to exit the country into exile. The tension is great, as a complex plot is enacted to foil the activity. Fantastic read!
