Looks like Mars ( one of our next great achievements ) wont be until sometime in the 2030s.
By then, our new deep space crafts will be fully tested and ready to begin exploring.
The STS System (space shuttles) was a wondrous and fantastic failure. Failure in the sense. that they never really achieve their intended purpose, getting men and material in low Earth orbit inexpensively. One the greatest machines man has ever built, but the wrong spacecraft for it's time.
However, don't worry, the next generations of low Earth orbit spacecraft will better and will better support future space stations and/or deep space craft.
