Here is a list of 21 books worth reading.  I've only read 6; there's some others I've always wanted to read but haven't gotten to yet.  Some others I've never thought about reading but look like they might be pretty good.  I've read The Maltese Falcon 3 or 4 times.

Ah ... The Maltese Falcon, the stuff dreams are made of ... As usual, the book is far better than the classic movie most people remember.

The movie was good, but I personally prefer the original 1931 version to the Humphrey Bogart version.  The original movie is raw, gritty and unrefined, more like Hammett's prose

A good reference list...  I've read some and missed most of them.  Guess I'll try a couple and see if I agree.   lol

Read 12, but many of the others I've seen in movies.  Lists are great, as there is always a treasure of two in there that you haven't read.  I try to read a classic every once in a while, as I just finished "Murder on the Orient Express" by Agatha Christie, based on a promo our local library is running on murder mysteries.

Murder on the Orient Express is a classic in its own right, that maybe should have been included.

Very interesting, thnx for posting. I,ve only read five (and one i wish i hadn,t, boring, nope wont say which one since everyone i talk to seems to love the darn book; ok i will say it wasnt To Kill a mockingbird, i loved that one).

Maybe you should say which one is boring; you might help somebody dodge a bullet.

Naw, probably wouldn't help anybody since, it being an older classic and all, just about everybody (espec. females) seem to have already read it.  I will say the title if anybody PMs me, lol.

Seems to be no end to lists of "must read" books. I just hope we don't get to the point where there are more lists than there are good books.
