TBD

TBD on Ning

Looks like March has arrived in most of the country like a "Lion".  Will be 83 and sunny here in Texas today with a 50 degree drop in temp tomorrow.  I have five potentially good books stacked and ready to hunker down if the predicted sleet arrives late tomorrow.

Am currently reading Quindlen's STILL LIFE WITH BREAD CRUMBS. So far, so good.  Nice respite from the thrillers!

Happy March reading to all!!!!

Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit...  I finished The Kill Clause by Gregg Hurwitz yesterday and am starting the new month on a lighter note with The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg.

I just finished The Future of the Mind by Michio Kaku, very good.  Just started Promise Land: My Journey Through America's Self-Help Culture by Jessica Lamb-Shapiro, good so far.

Yesterday I finished Tamarack County by William Kent Krueger, whose books often include one of my favorite characters: Henry Meloux, the Ojibwe medicine man and Cork's spiritual advisor and close friend.  Meloux is to me an oracle, projecting the most profound serenity and wisdom of any character I have read in many a year and makes reading one of these books doubly satisfying.

My very favorite series...

Loruach and Carci...couldn't agree more about Krueger's choice of a character with wisdom.

More to chat about tomorrow. <^..^>

Last night finished STILL LIKE WITH BREAD CRUMBS.  Loved it!!!  From the front cover:  "Brilliantly written, powerfully observed, STILL LIFE WITH BREAD CRUMBS is a deeply moving and often very funny story of unexpected love, and a stunningly crafted journey into the life of a woman, her heart, her mind, her days, as she discovers that life is a story with many levels, a story that is longer and more exciting than she ever imagined."  Anna Quindlen has done it again!

Well, I'm going to have to check out William Kent Krueger's books. Just what I need - another series to hook me in! Carci, I enjoyed The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion - but I'm such a fan of Fannie Flagg. I so enjoyed the characters in the book & I just didn't want it to end.

I just finished the latest Flavia DeLuca mystery, In Their Vaulted Crypts, or something close to that. She's such a fun character & so unique. I'm about halfway thru The Monuments Men, the book that George Clooney just made the movie from. It's a slow going WWII story of a very small group of dedicated art historians, museum directors, and architects saving, rescuing, and recovering the greatest works of art that the Nazi's tried to destroy, steal, and hide. Amazing people with an amazing story - just wish it moved a little faster.

Waiting in the wings is the latest J D Robb.

Hello Fun Seekers!
Sorry for abbrev and misspellings: Mandy, Carci, RAPA, PHYL, Beezer, Officer-Ripley, Lorough, TNBopeep, Grammyk, Flower, Kathryn ,Lip, Eagle and anyone I missed...BOLO out for Ursula, Lynn, Slopok, Reads-to-much! And anyone else I miss!

No major great books to share...DRAT!

I did listen to Lion Plays Rough...shame, shame...as anyone who tried to skim, slog thru this and would have NOT realized how great his 1st book...Bear is Broken was...at least to me and my DH....sigh. Maybe he just got slammed with "write a sequel, dammit!" By the Publisher?

Current listening is "White Heat"...M.j. McGrath. Now, this book is so dang engrossing! I'm already trying to find maps of Hudson Bay where the Inuit lives. WARNING WARNING...adult content! I can't even describe this mystery, like nothing I have ever read? I mean drama, life and survival in the Arctic? Who knew? And a woman who is a hunting guide up there? Reminds me of the book "Wild" which was a non-fiction...but this story sounds based on many levels of reality. Author won Award for best British writer under 35....hmmmm, seems pretty specific?

Just got a stack of new mystery books...mostly older than 2012. I avoid all those with story lines of Current affair type like Mid-east spy stuff...see enuf on FOX and other news reporting. Need an escape?

Non-fiction..."What's So Funny" by Tim Conway...who among us not fans of Carol Burnett? Also an amazing book called ...ack! Just took it down to copier to handle some pages to send to my adult children who live in Miami and around south Florida ...oh...wait my mind just tripped in! ..."The Triple Package"....this needs to be required reading for every American. How did immigrant Cubans become so successful? Jewish data of success blew me away...and Mormon's, too, of late.

What else? NE OHIO has felt like the tundra but after reading "White Heat" I feel like a wimp!

I'll review some of your recommendations during the week and report back. <^..^>

I finished Takedown Twenty by Janet Evanovich.  Titles change but the stories stay much the same.  Lots of silly, sexy banter, some Cluck in the Bucket and a few dozen donuts.  Steph chases the bad guys, Ranger comes to the rescue, and Lula chases a giraffe on the loose.  It's been awhile since the last romp so it is good for a few laughs...

I'm just getting into You're Next by Gregg Hurwitz. Scary stuff...  it's a definite page turner!

Gregg Hurwitz is one of my favorites, he's written a lot of good stuff but I think his You're Next is my absolute favorite of all.  Have you read anything by Linwood Barclay?  I think if you like Hurwitz you might also like Barclay.

Am currently 2/3 finished THE MUSEUM OF EXTRAORDINARY THINGS by Alice Hoffman.  This is a fascinating tale of two vastly different souls in New York during the volatile first decades of the twentieth century. Much of the story involves Coney Island and the garment district. I think you'd like this unusual, captivating bit of fiction.

I finished Lion Plays Rough by Lachlan Smith (very good) and am now in the midst of The Gods of Guilt by Michael Connelly. I expect many of you have already read it. Typical Michael Connelly---very readable and keeps you turning the pages.
