AUSTIN - Responding to the news that Washington Governor Jay Inslee had suspended the death penalty in his state, Texas Governor Rick Perry urged supporters of the death penalty to "vote with their feet" and move to Texas. "Come to Texas," Gov. Perry said. "The death penalty is alive and well here." The Texas Governor said he was introducing a new slogan to attract more people to the state: "Texas: come for the executions, stay for the transvaginal ultrasounds."

In Texas, the "El Norte" of the Spanish Inquisition, forced religion, mandatory work for little or no pay, and a hereditary although mixed race aristocracy that did not have to obey laws that commoners did, and did not get punished per se like commoners did.  Sounds like the culture of  today's Republican Party, doesn't it? ... "Don't do as I do, do what I tell you to".

California used to be like that to but was replaced mostly by German settlers, German culture has always been a culture of "Freiheit", every man is born free -- not just a select few.  This culture is also predominant in the French culture of Maine and Canada because they intentionally cohabited with native Indians rather than tried to dominate them as in Virginia, the Deep South, the Spanish El Norte, etc. Only the Coast States believe every man was born free today, Republican States still believe only a few special leaders are free and the rest of us are to do what they are told.

So, our politics our hertiage?

Interesting, my mother's family had a weekly newspaper called at points' 'The Republican Voice' for 125 years and three generations; my great-grandfather, my grandfather and uncle...until it was bought out, but still published.  So it guess its in the genes, as well as gender, er, sex, and intelligence, sociability and brown eyes....certainly the brown eyes, tho there it just isn't brown, sorta...just saying ....l3

Today's divisive politics seem to still be strongly influenced with the very-different divisive political cultures that existed when our forefathers were writing our constitution(s).  I'd think the melting pot would have done a better job melting the different cultures together by now, but a study of the paradigm seems to suggest maybe not.  A study really helped me understand where our different politics are coming from.

What study did you read, LLL?  Sounds like something I'd like to read.

Good to have you back; hope you're feeling much better!
