FEBRUARY READS

In addition to the SUPER BOWL, Punxsutawney Phil and Valentine's Day, I hope that  February brings you lots of good reads! I'm starting off with what I anticipate to be a couple winners!  This morning I picked up at the library Sue Monk Kidd's THE INVENTION OF WINGS  and Joyce Carol Oates new release CARTHAGE.

I adore "Jefferson Bass" books as well, but like you, this was my least favorite of them. Seemed more violent even tho' the one involving the boys' ranch in FL was more gruesome. Did that make any sense? I don't mind the going back in time - gives us some perspective I think - but I'm hoping the next one will get back on track.

If you ever get a chance to see Dr. Bass & Jon Jefferson in person, try & go see them. They're great in person. And funny - who would think given their subject matter!

I just started "In the Blood" by Lisa Unger; I'm quite sure I remember that someone else in the group has read it.  I also started on a nonfiction book called "Big Girls Don't Cry".  It's about the 2008 election, what it meant for women, all the difficult discussions that have come about as a result of that election.

I finished the book IN THE BLOOD by Lisa Unger before 2:00 last night and then slept fine. This is a riveting story about psychopaths, psychotics, murderers, adultery,  pedophilia .....you name it.  Interestingly enough, it did have a surprise ending.

I finished the book today and rapa, you're right that it has some of everything in it!

Yes, it really tied up all the questions, but in a way I'd never have guessed.

I am satisfying the challenge by my local library to read books in 12 different genres (categories) over the year.  In January I selected "The Goldfinch," as the category was a 2013 bestseller.  Amazon named it the #1 best selling book in 2013.  For February, my choice is "The Longest Ride" by Nicholas Sparks as the genre is "romance."  Nobody does it better than Nicholas Sparks, as I have read all of his novels (I believe there are 16) over the years.  In fact, most have become Hollywood movies.  I read "Safe Haven" last year and saw the movie.  I also love the location of most of the action, being in North Carolina.  In this story, an 91 year old man has had a critical accident and is sitting by the side of the road, adrift in a snow bank, talking to his wife, who has been dead for 9 years.  In the meantime, a city girl from New Jersey meets a cowboy who rides bulls in the rodeo.  As they are falling in love the story converges on the two couples in a fateful event.  http://www.amazon.com/Longest-Ride-Nicholas-Sparks-ebook/dp/B00BOTU...

I found THE LONGEST RIDE a nice, fast read.  Gave it an 87 on the Slopok scale.

What a surprise this review was, I just finished two of Sparks book.  I read the Guardian and Three Weeks with My Brother.  He is a great writer.  I have seen the Notebook but have not seen any of the other movies.  I was wanting a change from murder,mayhem and malarkey - just needed a break.  The weather here is terrible and very depressing so = change of reading to perk along a while longer.  Thanks to everyone who posts - I can keep my list growing.  Hugs to you all.

The weather has been terrible here so I have been on the look out for good books. I'm starting  The Light Between The Oceans. I first heard about this book in Bookoholics best and worse of 2013 lists. It sounded so good I had to get it. I also have The Most Of Nora Ephrom to read. It's a collection of her essays and includes her novel Heartburn and the screenplay for When Harry Met Sally. It's a collection of a lot of her work. 

I don't think there's anyone I enjoy reading more than Ephron. She will be missed

Already in February's reads I am finding new books like Big Girls Don't Cry which sounds so interesting.

I have also be reminded that it's been a while since I've read anything by Nicholas Sparks. I'll have to get his latest soon. I always like his books

What I always like about Bookoholics is hearing about books that I would want to add to my reading list.
