...The Ranch's answer to you -know - what - with no rules.

Go ahead...tell us what you're having for dinner - we can't wait! Got a cute pic of kitty peeking out of a paper bag? Post it! We live for that stuff!

Math addict? How about a refresher on the Pythagorean Theorem?

Like macaroni and cheese? Tell us why!

So even if you're not a writer or a poet (yet), there's still plenty of fun things to do at the Armadillo!

Oh baby, oh baby!

Word O' the (every other) Day (or so)...

adoxography - skilled writing on an unimportant subject

Word O'The Day...

Batrachophagous (Definition tomorrow)

Let me guess: a coffin for bats?

adoxography?? -- HEY! Said the ad writer who spends her days skillfully bashing out trash for cash.

Look at it this way, Marilyn: you're making money at your craft.  My daughter, who also wants to be a writer, spends her days managing a cafe in NYC.

Carol,

I just now saw your post and want to be clear: I really do like my business and it's a great way to make a living. Just see it clearly -- "I write stuff nobody really wants to read." And get paid handsomely for doing it.

Latest from here is snow, snowier, snowiest. We have well over a foot and it shows no signs of slowing down. They even closed the DE offices of Bank of America -- that's serious when the money-makers shut down! And here I sit, still bashing out trash for cash. From home! (Love, love, love telecommuting.)

And vhat's gnu with everybody?

Is this headline correct? (Grammatically)

Racing's Michael Schumacher Being Woken From Coma

January 30, 2014 7:45 AM

Woken? Is that even a word? "Being Awakened From Coma," more likely. (After he reads that headline he'll wish he never woked up!)

Whoops, just researched it and (drum roll):

Woken: verb (used without object), waked or woke, waked or woken, waking. 1. to become roused from sleep; awake; awaken; waken (often followed by up ).

On the other hand -- just because you can do something doesn't mean you should!

Hmm...I took it from the NPR site this morning, was sure it was a mistake, and looked forward to the upcoming howl of disapproval from thousands of readers.

It sounds so five-year-old.

No "wokened"?

Anyway, I thought I'd ax.

Thanks.

(and this is cool...when I wrote "Anyway, I thought I'd ax" , I originally spelled "ax" as "axe" and got the red line error thing. Deleting the "e" made it acceptable. Still don't like it, though.)

Yeah, I have heard myself say "woken" a few times and asked myself "what?" It doesn't sound right. Old English or something.
