And no, this isn't a Soviet submarine run aground off Massachusetts with funny, but human consequences. The Cold War is over, there is no Soviet Union and the humanity thing is a matter of conjecture as to what the parts of the old Russian is in the new Russian of Vladimir Putin.

What we do have here is a play, a play that is the consequence of a mess. A mess, in part, made by the Russians in their zeitgeist of being important when they are not, not as important as when the Cold War was a its height and danger. And who might be playing the Obama administration and America, making us appear a muscle bound that only that only knows about using the stick of world power, and maybe really is not the last and only, great world power left.

And yes, this has been a mouse trap of the Obama's administration own making, used by Putin as in one of Putin's favorite sports, jujitsu, where the opponent's own strength is used against it. And there is a story behind this that is yet to be explained and John Kerry is at the heart of it, somewhere.

And what is this all about?

The international connection that has been missing in the whole Syrian crisis,  particularly Russian cooperation, in dealing with the Syrian Assad regime.  With the Russians on board, the idea of turning over the Syrian regime chemical weapons to others is on the table. The gist of the idea is that someone with international authority would assume control, account for and destroy Syria's chemical weapons.

Result would be, Obama's Red Line problems would be dealt with and the world made safe, for another day, leaving the Assad regime still in power, unpunished and untouched by the US military.

"a mouse trap of the Obama's administration own making"

Yes, both Obama and Kerry have asked Russia to help stop Syria.  Good leadership, no?

Yes, set by the use of a line of color, the color red.  And yes, the Russians have been asked to cooperate for years on issues in the Middle East and central Asia and have stalled and stymied the American initiatives because of their own self-interests and client states.

The question is what is the difference now for Russia and Syria?  Why the Russian cooperation?

Clearly, what is being proposed and considered, helps the Assad regime to avoid whatever military punishment was being planned by the US forces, while it does nothing to change the reality on the ground that the Assad regime is winning the civil war, for now.

Does this move the world off the brink of a wider conflict in and around Syria?, for the time being, it does.

But in the end, time for what?

Just trade; economics 101.
