Why exactly did they find the Civil Rights Acts unconstitutional again?

The Court declared Section 5 as unconstitutional in the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

What was in this section was the requirement of pre-authorization by the DoJ of any changes in voting laws, rules and regulations by certain geographical jurisdictions which were primarily in the "Old" South.  The striking down of Section 5 does not invalidate the rest of the VRA, what does mean is that if there are discriminatory acts as provided for in the VRA, they, the DoJ, has to bring suit and then litigate the case.   And this is true, and has been true, and used in all other parts of the country, except those on the "map" that required DoJ pre-authorization.

The rest of the VRA still stands as justification of DoJ ligation and in its decision the Court said that it was up to Congress to re-institute the map of Section 5, and justifying the inclusions as over 50 years had passed, and things had changed.

The ruling implied that the "New" South was not the same as the "Old South of 1965 and needs to be recognized and considered.

They don't get out much, do they?

Well, a lot of them are at retirement age, and probably working through their bucket list.

And speaking of who's next, Ruth Bader Ginsburg says it isn't she.

Which leaves President Obama without another Supreme Court nomination fight on his watch, but leaves Democrat concern about what happens next as to who would be Ginsburg's replacement and appointed by whom.

silly people in robes..maybe it is different elsewhere but the attitudes have not changed all that much as far as i can see...there is still a basic tribalism that was the basis for the voter rights act and that has not changed much if any at all since 1965. they just couch it better.

an interesting viewing by the by is the pbs programming on the 50th anniversary of the march on washington and the 'i have a dream' speech...right there in a nutshell is the basis for the hatred of the unions and them hollywood liberals as well

after all, just think of walter reuther, the head of the uaw, speaking at the march for equal civil rights..why how dare they...and celebrities like burt lancaster and others espousing equal rights....no wonder some people still froth at the mouth at the mention of certain names
