Are you aware of any reading moods that you have.

Do you cycle between the various moods, something escapist followed by a thriller then a romance for example.

Do you find that sometimes you reach saturation from a certain author or a certain type of books?

How do you choose which book do you take up next, by type, by recommendation, by book cover (it's been known to happen)?

I have been known to "admire" a book's cover, but have never picked a book to "read" simply by its cover.

1. Author

2. Subject

3. Good reviews.

Lip...good analysis/query. Actually...I "happened" to read a book...why? Have no clue, called"Six Bad Things" and loved the Author...Charlie Huston.

I'm reading his latest "Skinner" which I would have abandon at page 50 except I know he is a great writer! I do investigate all Titles at B&N before spending my valuable time with the writing...(lol) actually, there is something to that analysis...so many great books...why get stuck with mediocrity?

Mellow...<^..^> purrs who loved "Six Bad Things" as any pet lover would know a pet's safety is paramount!
Ummm...Warning! Alert! Charlie uses adult language tho no explicit sexual content. I'm thinking his readership is adult males...28 to 32...

Stephen King says about Skinner, " Anyone not acquainted with Charlie's blistering, unputdownable novels will want to tie their sneakers nice and tight, or they are to be blasted clean out of them."

See? Sneakers? Youth? Nite nite. ~mlo

Indeed I have reading moods and seldom read straight through a series.  The last few books I've read have been in this order:

THE KILL ROOM by Jeffrey Deaver (thriller)

THE ORPHAN TRAIN by Christine Baker Kline (historical fiction)

LOVE ANTHONY by Lisa Genova (about autism)

THE PROFESSIONALS by Owen Laukkanen (thriller)

THE SILVER STAR by Jeannette Walls (literary fiction)

IT HAPPENED AT THE FAIR by Deeanne Gist (historical fiction)

THE IRISSISTABLE BLUEBERRY BAKESHOP & CAFE by Mary Simses (romance)

Tonight starting CRIMINAL EVIDENCE by Owen Laukkanen another thriller

I like variety in my reading .  Have friends who only read mysteries, others only thrillers and my DH only non-fiction. With books there's something for everyone!

Unfortunately, Scarlett lives 1,000 mi. from us, so will be watching her grow via the lovely pictures her mother shares. Unfortunately, we have no family close by. :(   I've recorded talking books for the other great-grands as will do for Scarlett.

Oops, the book I'm reading by Owen Laukkanen is CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE I typed the name wrong!  It's a fast moving thriller that quite difficult to put down!

I read a little of everything, go thru streaks and just read one kind then get bored and move on to something different for a change. Right now doing a lot of historical fiction. just finished the series "The Bells of Lowell" about the mills in Lowell, Mass. Moving on to an Amish story for something a little lighter. Most favorites is mystery. Stephen white is my favorite author, he writes about Boulder, Colo. His last book in a 20 book series is coming out Aug 20th and then I have tickets to a book signing by him the same day.

Yes I switch up my reading from book to book according to mood.  It keep,s me out of a rut because I try a little bit of everything to read.  I cannot read thrillers or books with a lot of bloodshed.  Years ago as a child I read all of the "Oz" books, later I read all of Phyllis Whitney's books, and am now reading the Christian fiction about the man walking to Key West Florida after the sudden death of his wife and his business partner maneuvering the business away from him sothat he is essentially penniless.

I go through streaks,,I find that I sometimes have an author streak, sometimes a type streak, and sometimes I feel I need a new direction when I really appreciate a place like Bookoholics or Goodreads.

For author streaks, I cannot get enough of Preston-Child on the other hand I cannot stomach  another Evanovitch.

Sano-if you like Christian fiction- have you read" Where the River Ends" by Charles Martin?
