Does anyone have any info or experience with Regional Ebook and Audiobook Download System? This is a program that libraries can buy into - or maybe subscribe to would be a better description. Our library is looking into participating in this but we've got lots of questions that we're having a hard time getting answered. It's a lot of money for our little library & Friends group so we want to make sure we know what we're getting into. Suposedly "thousands" of books but what kinds of books? If it's all "War and Peace" or "Pride and Prejudice", well, we'll have to think on it!

Any info anyone??

You might contact the American Library Association (ALA) for more info.

Yes! I use use it extensively. It's easy to use and has a wide selection of audio,e-books and even kindle formats. You have to download the the Overdrive Media console, but it's simple with easy to follow directions. I like it! (its free)..I'm in Tennessee. oops..I see I'm responding to Bopeep. I thought you already used it. Anyway I like the R.E.A.D.S program.

Go Manchester or some other participating library and get a library card and then try it out.

Slopok, I seemed to remember in the dim recesses of my brain that you had mentioned it before. It seems like a very good deal & our library head is trying to find out as much as she can about it. It's mostly for larger libraries but we've managed to get a window of opportunity to join in. Our little library has a growing selection of ebook but we'll never have thousands. We currently use Overdrive & yes, it's a wonderful thing to just sit at home & get books - ba boom, instantly.

Tell me, is there a long wait for popular books? I know licensing doesn't allow unlimited simultaneous check-outs. We're also wondering if a book can only be checked out for a proscribed # of times before it poofs off the system for good.

Joanne, our head librarian is in Chicago now for some big librarian conference & she's hoping to find out much more there. We're not certain how long this window for us will be open so we're scrambling for all the info we can get. I think we're probably going to do it but still would like to know all we can about it.

Thanks for the input guys!

The American Library Association is having their big conference in Chicago.  She should be able to come back with tons of information on the R.E.A.D.S program.

That's what we're hoping!

Audio books never expire once on your Player. They say up to three weeks but it's really unlimited for audio. E books do expire in 2 weeks (you have choice of 1 or 2 weeks...Maybe 3...I forget. Go here and look at the menu for books and book types.http://reads.lib.overdrive.com/1281C57D-281C-40E8-A5D9-F699718C5637...

I'll bet the Chatt. library participates. You only need a library card number of a participating Lib. to use the service.
