As good as "The Da Vinci Code"? I picked up my copy at 40% off list at the local Kroger, as it will serve a family read-in. I am on the last few pages of this Professor Langdon trip through the treasures of Florence (Italy that is, as I live in Florence, KY and our main treasures are tobacco drying sheds that are no longer being used and the local horse racing track).
Over the years, I have toured Florence three times and the buildings depicted in the story that is placed in the Renaissance center of Italy seem familiar to me. I even pulled out a couple of my old photo albums showing the David and the Duomo, among other Florence attractions. Dante is the prime subject of the mystery, as his "Inferno" sets the theme of a world wide plot to half the human population, a la Malthus' theory of the need to cull the species.
Of course, it is atop all the Best Seller lists and Tom Hanks has an assured role coming up. I would say it has come as close to "The Da Vinci Code" as any imitation has in the past few years. It is much better that his last book, "The Lost Symbol." Hang on to your relics and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the advice, have liked his books in the past and have not yet read the Lost Symbol (at least I think so- memory getting worse - will probably get almost all of it read and realize I have done so before) LOL. Have been through Florence many times going south to Florida. I was born in Tennessee and very familiar with the old tobacco barns.
