Just finished The Tinderbox by Jo Bannister.  What a disappointment!  200 pages of slogging thru the homeless section of London with Dad looking for his little girl who disappeared 6 years ago at age 15.  I kept reading because I thought there sould be some resolution at the end... but it left you hanging.

Not recommended!

I brought 9 books along up north for a 2 week stay and I'm down to the  last 2... both also by Jo Bannister.  I will try Echoes of Lies, the first of a 9 book series by her but after the last one I'm not expecting much.  I may have to dig out my Kindle. I have several on there that I would like to get into soon.

Could have sworn I posted on this discussion but either cyber moths ate it or I posted it who knows where......Anyway, I just gave up on a book I bought at the library book sale (so no big investment) that sounded so intriguing. Titled Jimi Hendrix Turns Eighty by Tim Sandlin. The dust jacket described it as taking place in 2022 in an assisted living facility with lots of aging hippies who are at the mercy of uncaring staff & children/guardians who only want their money. Was described as funny - I so wanted to enjoy it but just gave up.

A friend has loaned me David Rosenfelt's Airtight & I'm getting ready to start it. Let's hope it's better!

Kind of late getting this on but did you know that Debbie McComber is doing a live chat at 11am pacific time today at Goodreads/ Also on the 15th Cheryl Strayed who wrote Wild will do a video chat.Just finished Starting now, really liked it.

Eagle - I just put Cheryl's Good-Read date on my Calendar.  LOVED her story!  (some very...ahem...adult language in the book...just to be warned)  Thanks for the head's up.

I have lots of comments - but just back from my own "WILD's" - so in the weeds at the moment (means too many tables in the Restaurant biz)  Chat later.~mellowgal

I just finished Paganini’s Ghost by Paul Adam and can highly recommend it, with the one qualification I mention below.

The protagonist is a sixty something year old Italian violin maker.  The story, although ostensibly a mystery, is steeped in classical music history and the art of violin making.  I thought it was wonderful and very well written, but the reader will probably need at least a passing interest in classical music.

I had previously read The Rainaldi Quartet by the same author featuring the same characters and thoroughly enjoyed it as well.

Just finished Tahoe Trap by Todd Borg; a great mystery series featuring P.I. Owen McKenna, excellent!

thanks ripley...  I just ordered the first 2 in this series...  needed a new author... will get back to you  :)

A not-so-funny (???) happened on my way to Washington DC yesterday.  I left my carry-on bag in the car and my son was long gone when I realized it, plus he had remarked that he left his cell phone at home, so no way to call him back.  Being a devout Bookoholic I made a beeline to the bookstore at the airport to buy something to read on my cross-country flight.  Amazing how many of the books they had for sale I had already read, but I did find a copy of Lisa Genova's (Still Alice) new book, Love Anthony.  This book deals with autism and I happen to have 2 young men in my life who have autism, so I was interested to see how she handled this difficult condition.  Happy to say, she has another winner, very well-written, good subplots, plus part of the story is told from the child's point of view.

I was reading the last page as we landed at Dulles airport, a bit misty-eyed, but happy I got to read this book.  When I get home, I know 2 young mothers who will be encouraged to read this book.  I hope you will too!

Just ordered this from my library...  have a grandson that is borderline autistic/aspergers with a mood disorder(?) so this may help get my brain around it and help to understand his angry outbursts...

I finished not too long ago a novel about an Aspie, 600 Hours of Edward by Craig Lancaster, very good; can't wait to read the next in the series, Edward Adrift.  And I just finished up today The Autistic Brain by Temple Grandin, love her books.

OK...so raise your hands

Somebody put a link to a list of Edger Award winners.  I check out.  NOW, I'm deep into Live By Night - Dennis Lehane!  Yummy.~mellowgal

Here's a repeat of the list.  Need to refresh my memory!!!!
