Last night Malice Domestic awarded the coveted Agatha Award for best cozy mystery (in the style of Agatha Christie) to Louise Penny for The Beautiful Mystery. This is the 5th time in 6 years that she has won this award. Guess I'm not the only fan!!
Since we discovered her when she wrote her first book, Still Life, and I met her 2 years ago, I feel like a proud parent. Couldn't happen to a nicer person!! I mean Louise, of course!!

Am thrilled for Louise that she won but must admit that THE BEAUTIFUL MYSTERY was not my favorite Penny book. Am hoping that her new book due out in August will tie up some things that left me uncomfortably hanging.
I have read both of the books and just added Penny's"The Cruelest Month" and "A Fatal Grace" to my stack of "TO READ" books as I picked up both copies at the local used book store. Although, the classic Quebec French Canadian Detective novel, IMHO, is Trevanian's "The Main." http://www.amazon.com/The-Main-Trevanian/dp/0586047565
A,m currently reading - The Cruelest Month- someone here recommended her and I do like her writing very much and plan to read all of hers - glad to know she is appreciated with the awards.
I loved The Beautiful Mystery. Of course growing up with the Latin Mass, Gregorian Chant was the music we heard on a regular basis. I was insightful to read the history of the music along with the mystery of the monks and the monastery.
DH just finished the book yesterday and he liked it but is more into the thriller than cozy type of mysteries. This was the first Louise Penney book he has read.
