Howdy…and Welcome Folks,to the Annual Armadillo Burning Sand Festival!
(Jeez this crap is hard to put out once it gets started…hey! You kids! Get the hell away from there!)
First up on stage tonight, ladies and gentlemen – please welcome the legendary Sandy Sanderson and the SandTones performing their all –time greatest hits:
Sand Gets In Your Eyes (Classic Jazz favorite)
I Wanna Hold Your Sand ( Beatles)
Mr. Sandman (Duuuhhh!)
(The crowd roars!)
Tonight’s concert is brought to you by The Brotherhood of American Sand Pounders, Local 44 who remind you that “no matter what your age – it’s never too late to pound sand!”
Heh-heh....
Grandma always said you had to eat a peck of dirt before you died – easy to do if you ate at the beach. In the dunes, in the wind, sharp saw grasses ruffling….
The big red cooler held all the stuff you had to eat quickly, before the ice melted and it warmed up around the potato salad and the coleslaw, the egg salad sandwiches on the spongy white bread – bread the color of the sand at crystal beach.
You didn’t see it land like thistle down on the chunks of potato, on the blanched bread like a textured spice – like caraway seeds, course pepper, kosher salt – a little crunch is all, biting down. Sand-wiches. Mmmm….Is it dill seed, onion flakes? No, it’s the glassy grit of the great outdoors, the little poke we need to keep the colon on its toes. It’s Grandma’s clean-ish dirt seeing us on our way – not to worry.
