TBD on Ning

Hi, has anyone in the group who has a Kindle (or Kindle app on a tablet) ever had to replace their Kindle or tablet while they still had Kindle books on it?  My tablet is acting like it's circling the drain; I've been told that I might be able to repair it by doing a "reset" but I would lose all the Kindle books and any apps I've downloaded.  I know that Amazon keeps Kindle purchases in my Kindle library online, but will I have to pay again to download them again?  (Every time I try to contact Amazon with a question, all I get back is, "We'll be glad to try to help you if you'll call us at the following ph. #.")

Thanks for any help/advice.

Resetting the kindle will not make you loose the apps or books that you had on them even if the reset erases them.

If you reset back to original state, you can get all those items back. All you would need is connect to the store and log in as yourself then sync the kindle to the store, all your items will show up again.

If you don't how to sync, just click on each items you had purchased and it will be reloaded back after the reset.

For kindle questions your best bet is this page:

Thanks, Lip Service; that's good to know.  (I just got off the phone with Amazon & that's what I gathered they were trying to tell me but the 1st rep. sounded both bored & under the influence and both had such thick accents I wasn't sure if I was understanding them.  So your help is much appreciated.)

There's a helpful forum on amazon.com that might answer you  questions more directly.  I've had trouble with my kindle (it's the one with the keyboard) freezing on a page.  I learned in the forum to reboot (Hold the on/off switch for 30 seconds, then leave it alone to reboot.  You don't lose anything - all books return but you don't have to pay again to reload from your online library.)  Also I was told to store only 500 or so books, more will slow it down.  (Slow navigation on the device is another problem I had.)

A couple of days ago I set the kindle to charge overnight but it didn't.  It wouldn't turn off when I turned it on.  Couldn't find anything on the forum & got the same msge you did about phoning.  As a last resort I plugged in the charger again, left it for an hour or so and everything seemed to correct itself.  Don't know why or what happened.

Someone I met had her kindle battery go bad during warranty & it was replaced.  The second one went bad too so she gave up.

Hope this helps.  I know how frustrating problems can be.

Maybe one of you can answer I question for me...  I have so many books on my kindle (hundreds of free books) now and sometimes when I start one I really don't like it all that much or I finish reading one and don't really want to keep it.

Does sending it to archives get rid of the book off my kindle and free up the space for other books or is it just moving it to another file?

When I want to get rid of a book on my Kindle, I just do the "Remove from this Device" thing.  From what I understand, it then goes to the archive, but I don't know whether that still takes up space or not.  Being on the phone with the folks at Amazon has usually been a pleasant and informative experience.  I hope having over 500 books on the device won't mess it up.  It is a teeny bit slower than inthe past but still works, and I have 525 on there now.  Most were "free" some were purchased.  Also, if you go to Amazon/ Manage My Kindle page on-line, you can remove the books you don't want.  However, it is a long drawn out process, as when you remove one, it takes you back to the beginning, and you have to scroll, scroll to get back to where ever you were. Is why it takes so long. But it does work.

I don't much about the Kindle. I have the NOOK, when I upgraded from the color to the HD+ when I registered all my books and apps came on both of them. They say you can register 5 devises on one CC.Once I had to reset the color and everything came back.Archiving on the NOOk just sends it to the cloud to make more room, but if you delete it is gone and you will have to buy it again.I know on the NOOK you have to plug the charger into the NOOK 1st, then into to wall plug.

For those who liked  Stieg Larsson’s Lisbeth Salander (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, etc...)

Here is something of a similar mindset.

The reason I am mentioning it here instead of the main discussions is that this is available for $2 for today only if you have a kindle. It is usually $14

Also today only the following LL Bartlett mystery is free, pretty good read

The first place would be Amazon.  When there, I search for "free books". I use an iPad but have a Kindle app. Much prefer reading paper books but do keep some downloaded on iPad. The only books I buy are for gifting.

EReader News Today is another source.

Pixel of Ink is one daily list of Kindle books.  Kindle Nation Daily,  Free Kindle books and tips are two more.  Google free kindle books & you'll get a swarm of sources.  Gutenberg Project is free books that are out of copyright - thousands there.

Lynn,

There are two nice sites that list a number of free kindle books every day.  Make it a habit of checking them every few days:
