YAY - THANK GOODNESS - GREAT JOB CONSTABLES

Our Katy Fit training program has its Saturday morning running and walking groups' meet at Terry Hershey Park.  I've seen so many exercisers come back to their vehicles and find their windows broken.

If you're out and about exercising or enjoying the scenery at a park, do you leave any important items or valuables in your vehicle?

I never leave anything important or of value in my car. Whenever I go to THP or any other place to run, I carry a small plastic folder in a small zip lock bag with my necessary ID, insurance, a twenty dollar bill, etc., in one of my pockets or in a zippered compartment in my hydration belt or camera carrying case (since I so often have my camera with me!)

Hundreds of IDs, credit cards and check books were found in a motel room where crooks stashed their loot taken from Terry Hershey Park and other Houston-area parks.  The crooks break out the windows of the victims.  It turned out that Harris County constables from Precinct 5 were doing surveillance at the park after dozens of similar cases were reported.

And then there are the stories about the perverts and the sexual harassers on the trails - oh my - I could tell plenty of stories about that!!  The best weapon for that is to pull your headband over your eyes or pay no attention to the harassers!!

Seriously, I DID call our County Commissioners' office to see what days the County workers were not working since they were quite aggressive when they were mowing or watering the lawns in the park.  The receptionist wanted to know why I wanted to know what days the workers weren't there, so I told her.  I was told to file a complaint, which I did.  I had to go to their office and even demonstrate some of the things that happened, even about the pervs.  Since I was able to describe some of the County workers, they were called in; and, of course, they didn't recall anything; but they didn't say "No," since I'm sure they wondered if any other women had or would complain!  We all had to sign affidavits; and at least the guys knew better than to harass any women on the trails after that.  I also suggested they have county officers out on the trails on bikes or carts during the day when there weren't a lot of people on the trails during the week.  At that time they only had officers start patrolling around 5 PM when the trails got busy, so they DID do that.  After all of that happened, I stopped running, biking, and rollerblading on the trails by myself unless I was on the main loop of the park.  That's also why I use my treadmill a lot during the week when I'm not running with a group!

Well, I guess that's why we're here amongst friends = so much better than else where!

Geez, I've read all the posts here now and am shocked at how people are forced

to live in fear and uncertainty amongst their fellow human beings.

It looks like we have done a pretty good job of messing things up.

If we look back in time, we know that there has always been a

certain amount of theft, break-ins and thuggery within communities,

but the amount has now become staggering.

Is this because there are huge numbers of people out of work these days?

I tend to think that we have out-smarted ourselves as we have replaced

human hands with machines and technology, look at all of the huge numbers

of people that have been re-trenched and or made redundant over the

last 15 to 20 years, it is by no means an excuse for increased crime,

but for every action there is always a re-action.

That response was some good "Food for Thought," ozzie!

Thank you TW, I remember reading in a book once,

where it was written that the whole world revolves around numbers,

(mathematics), so if we stop for a minute to consider that the last

World War ended over 70 years ago, plus the fact that we have been

converted into technology and machines run by computers etc,

also add the fact that we are definitely living longer through

the aid of great medical science advances, then it seems

we have structured a robust algebraic equation that is

leaning way too far on one side.

(It's 1:15 AM here right now, and I am going to kiss another day bye bye now,

but I have enjoyed socializing and great conversations here on the `net'

- all tucked away in the safety of my own home, lol.)

I refuse to live in fear of crime.  I don't lock my doors, I walk in "bad" neighborhoods and don't think twice about it.  Maybe I'm a little crazy, but I've never had a problem with anyone.

I agree ozzieowl  & Steve:  people have 2 much time & they c all those pretty things on TV & the bad.  they get greedy, want everything & think bullying will get it 4 them! = sad commentary on todays society!
