TBD

TBD on Ning

The holidays are now history so is everyone finding time to settle down with a good book?

I'm reading Ann Patchett's STATE OF WONDER and am finding it a page-turner. Nothing like a trip to the Amazon jungle to pique my interest.  Also medical research intigue which fascinates me. Loved Patchett's BEL CANTO and this is just as good!

Douglas Preston's TWO GRAVES is enroute to library for me.

What are you reading now???????

I will add my name to those who have picked up "Protector."  So far the main character, Jane Perry, is a sloppy drunk, sex addicted and potty-mouthed police woman who prowls the streets of Denver.  Not bad for a beginning.  Cars are blowing up and people are dying. That also a good start.  I'm in for the ride.

Mandy - I will look up Protector - my DH loves the "cars rolling over and guns firing" action mysteries.

Wanna mention two books, Angel Dance and No Way To Die, both by M.D. Grayson, a new author for me. Angel was free and To Die was 2.99 (Kindle). They are the 1st and 2nd book in a series about a Private investigator, Danny Logan, and his beautiful assistant who is also his partner and best friend.(Strong attraction between them, denied by work rules) The books are well written and an easy enjoyable read. I'll give both 4 stars. Just about to finish To Die.

Went to our discussion group today- "Broken" by Lisa Jones. Interesting- either people loved it or hated it, there was no middle ground. I liked it altho when I started it I thought it was going to be about breaking horses and it was some, but a lot was about the authors broken journey.

I'm reading The Sea by John Banville.  Lovely, so far.  Reminds me somewhat of Dylan Thomas' prose.

Am on my third reading (in two years) of The Four Agreements.  It reminds me how to shut up and just let it all go.

Just finished The Cutting Season by Attica Locke  ...it was just OK.

Now I am starting Love in the Present Tense by Catherine Ryan Hyde

Just finished No Time For Goodbye  by Linwood Barclay.  I like this author- this is his second book for me and he has a smooth but interesting story to tell and I turn the pages quickly.  I am finishing This Hallowed Ground - a civil war history by Catton and I do like it very much.  I am now turning to Nevada Barr again for the next two books.  Keep the authors and titles coming - I have many books to read on my list but want  it to go on growing.

I just finished Denise Grover Swank's "Chosen," and can't wait to read the next part of the trilogy about a mother and son with supernatural powers, and a mercenary who is sworn to protect them. It was just 99 cents on Nook.

We will have book discussion on Tue for the Time Travelers Wife. Am reading "The Story Of Edgar Sawtelle" by David Wroblewski for next months book club. Having a hard time getting into it.

Eaglewoman, "Bookies" read Edgar in droves a couple of years ago when it first came out... it seemed like people either loved it or hated it...  I was among those who loved it!

I still remember being brought to tears in the chapter about Almondine's reaction to Edgar's father's death and how they should have realized she was grieving too and have given her an old flannel shirt of his in her bed to smell & remember him. It made me think differently about dogs and their sense of loss when their owner dies.

Not many books I remember years after I have read them so that says alot about that book.

....and I'm one of those who didn't like THE STORY OF EDGAR SAWTELLE  at all!!!  Like Eaglewoman, I couldn't get into it.  Of course, I'm not a current dog owner but am crazy about my friend's dogs.  Easy, when I don't have to walk them!!!  ;)

Rapa...thanks for posting your review...my daughter has 3 dogs...boxer, golden retriever, Austrailan shepherd...when I stay with her for a week or so...keep thinking...yowza...lotta work!

I just loved BadLittle Falls! Now on a quest for another gripping mystery! Not into Nevada Barr ...up to date on CJ Box and other authors of this genre. Need to go back over all the recommendations of this group!

Had Friends of library meeting this week. Found out that our local County system will be integrating with ALL Ohio libraries, including College and University systems! Yowza! How exciting...ahem...they want me to be Secretary of the Group? Geesch...only been a member for 3 meetings? Run to nearest exit?

Thanks for all the input on the thread this month!~mlo
