TBD on Ning

I just heard on CNN that Lance Armstrong has apologized to Livestrong, and he'll be on Oprah's OWN show tomorrow evening for an interview.

Lance Armstrong is a slime ball, in my opinion.  He can apologize all he wants, but it doesn't erase his lying and cheating.

OldMike, I agree with you.  He took drugs and worse he lied about it in order to beat people who could have won legitimately.  Who cares what he has to apologize about.  They took his awards away from him, but didn't give them to the guys who should have won.

I've read and heard that one of the reasons he's apologizing is that he wants to be able to participate in sanctioned triathlons once again since he's been barred from them now, but World Anti-Doping Code rules state his lifetime ban cannot be reduced to less than eight years. WADA and U.S. Anti-Doping officials could agree to reduce the ban further depending on what new information Armstrong provides and his level of cooperation.

Any potential perjury charges stemming from his sworn testimony denying doping in a 2005 arbitration fight with a Dallas promotions company over a contract bonus worth $7.5 million have passed the statute of limitations.   It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Lance.  His attorney is no stranger to defending famous faces!

Maybe those of us who are cyclists and runners are more interested in a topic like this than those who don't participate in these kinds of fitness activities. The group I run with is always interested in discussing issues like this one on our long runs - makes the time go by faster!!  Also, I'm just a curious person about people in general. I always like to find out reasons about WHY people do what they do, and what they are thinking when they allow themselves to do things like what Lance did. Makes life so much more interesting to me!

TW, my only question is does it matter WHY?  I don't run or cycle, so that may be why I don't care what his excuses are.  Since you do run, why does his reasoning matter to folks who do?  I'm curious.  Also, do we know if he explained why to Oprah?  I think the things that really bothers me about all of this is (1) he cheated (2) he made it seem like he was something he isn't and (3) he cheated the folks who really should have won.  He's just a cheat.

Why people do what they do has always interested me. I record Dr. Phil’s show and either watch it while I’m working out or listen to it when I’m doing things around the house. When Dr. Phil has interviewed people who have done terrible things, he always wants to know WHY, and tries to get them to answer that question. He also asks them what they were actually thinking when they did what they did that possibly made the person think it was okay to do that. That’s WHY I’m curious!

So, so many other cyclists (and of course others in sports) have done what Lance did - many on his own teams; however, at least a lot of them confessed; but Lance didn’t. I’m wondering if he’ll have anything to say about why he didn’t come clean. Once again, I have a curious mind!

Speaking just for myself....I am really tired of the people I respect and admire disappointing me.  Is it so much to ask for a person to just be a decent, respectable, honest soul?  What's so hard about that?  Why is it that their feet are always made of clay?

I don't care how often or why he apologizes; I do not forgive him.....for destroying another hero of mine.  It's getting so that I don't respect or trust in any single solitary public figure.  They're not deserving of respect.  I.....lowly person that I am......am a better person.  I am who I am and don't try to con people into believing I am what I am not.  Sports idols.....corporate heads.....politicians......they are all huge disappointments.

Frankly, I think people are just sick and tired of "celebrities' and their tired, insincere confessions.  Most (and hear me most - there may be a few exceptions) go public and especially in Mr. Armstrong's case because he has an ulterior motive.  He isn't publicly confessing because he feels remorse, he just sees this as another vehicle to get what he wants.

He lost my respect when he dumped Sheryl Crow right after she found out she had breast cancer.  That speaks volumes about his character.

TW I understand what you're saying about your mind being curious and wanting to know why.  That I get.  A lot of us watch a lot of talk shows, likely for the same reason.  Like few others have said though, there's just so many of them with insincere confessions.  I'll bet he still thinks he did nothing wrong.  That's the sad part.  A lot of people admired him for overcoming cancer and going on to win all these events.  Now we find out he needed drugs to do it.  It also makes you look twice at other athletes that seem to be good and it's not fair to them.

I'm planning on watching this.  I figure it should be interesting to see what he has to say.  Not sure I'll believe most of it, but I want to hear it.

I've got my DVR set for Chapter one, tonight,  and Chapter two, tomorrow night!

I'll probably watch them the next time I run on my treadmill, so I'll be behind in the "Lance" news!!
